What happened to Gantt?

Gantt's job, right now, is to talk about Julius Peppers and find out as much as possible about what's really keeping Peppers from wanting to be a part of this team. That situation is the elephant in the room right now and if Gantt finds this tiring, maybe he should so something else.

I'm not tired of this. I want to know as much as possible and I want as much information from the beat reporters. If I were Gantt's editor and I heard that he said he was tired of covering the biggest Panthers story right now, I'd find someone new to cover the beat and fire Gantt.

And newspaper companies wonder why they are losing half their revenue.

Gantt is not allowed to cover anything that may put the organization, a.k.a. his bosses in a possibly unfavorable light no matter what level of conjecture is involved. Hence he is on sabbatical ..conveniently

The problem that you and I both know is that the organization is so tight lipped about everything, that all he or anyone else is likely getting is "No Comment" when it comes to that situation. It's not as if you see the Observer, Steve Reed, Yasinskas at ESPN, etc. breaking anything about the story or lack thereof.

If nothing is happening there is nothing to report. He could make poo up, but what's the point?

Exactly. If there were breaking news, we would have heard about it by now. I applaud Gannt for not wanting to rehash yesterday's information and call it news, which seems to be the standard course of action these days.

On the other hand, there isn't even a scrap of news about Peppers, or anything else about the Panthers right now, so it's a pretty good time to relax and get ready for OTA's.

Things are just not as dramatic as you want them to be.

And BTW, count me in as one of the people who don't want to read or hear the same old things over and over and over about Peppers. When there is some real news, by all means, report it. Otherwise, don't waste my time.

If Gantt had good sources, he'd know the real story.

And if he prints everything he knows, there will probably be no more sources. These beat writers get a lot of their information "off the record" and they can't always print it. They can however, print their opinions that are largely based on inside information that none of us are privvy to.

That's why I tend to take Gantt's word over any fans.
