Williams flat out doesn't fit

Chud does....

If DeAngelo isn't able to run zone-read and that's what we're trying to run for the most part, then that doesn't seem like much of an effort to find a way to use him?

Even in a zone-read scheme, the o-line has to open a hole somewhere and I didn't see much of that happening yesterday. I'd have to see the all-22 camera angle, but from the broadcast angle I didn't see much room to run anywhere.

But again with Stewart...the opposing DL cant pin their ears back like they did Sunday. Cam and Stewart neutralize the pass rush.....then pass out of the gun as a D plays the run. Take Stewart out....and run the same scheme...it is all pass rush. No RB to hot that inside run as they pass rush. Those are easy little yards for Stewart.

I agree

The thing with Stew in there is that it gives us a much better shot at having 2 & 6s and below

I didn't like it last year either. Rather him run from under center. Whatever though.

We were the best and most efficient run attack in the NFL last year.....I'll take that.

if Stewart can play against the Saints*. That formation magically works again.

Williams was the token starter last year....Stewart the primary RB.

If Stewart really is the primary RB, then Williams should be competing with Tolbert for carries. I don't like how Williams is going to be guaranteed his carries just because of his "status" on the team. I want him to earn his carries in practice every week by competing with Tolbert. We need to either play Tolbert at fullback or stop calling him a fullback. He is a half-back and he should be given an equal opportunity to show his worth.

Bucs ain't far from it IMO. We allowed them to straight up pass rush from the first snap onward. Was more Chud set us up to fail than great D.

Tampa has more talent on defense. Talib is a solid corner, Saints** have 0. Barber is older but solid at safety, Saints** have 0 and Barron is good for a rookie. McCoy is a solid Linemen, Saints** have 0. Only thing Saints** MIGHT have better is the linebacking core and if Vilma is out its a wash also.

We didn't have enough under center plays. That's the bottom line. Tolbert lined up at fullback once maybe twice all day.

If you watch enough college ball you know the best way to stop the read option is to run blitz the poo out of it.

It has nothing to do with Williams verses Stew.

Tampa did a great job of game planning for it.

the spread read option hasnt worked in the NFL because of defensive team speed. It worked some last year because we kind of brought it out of the darkness(and of course Cam may be an exception), but teams will be prepared to see that now. We have to be able to run the ball out of pro sets this year, because we can't only depend on the spread as our only running option. This is where Deangelo will have his value, but it does start with the oline being somewhat competent, which we have not seen in the last 5 years in the first few weeks of each season.

I just don't see why people think our offense should/will be all spread read/options, when it just doesn't work effectively enough in the NFL.

Wait and see....all we can do. Bucs will give up points this year. we put them in an ideal scenario from the get go.

Barron is still a rookie. He overplayed the run in preseason and struggled in coverage....we took the guessing away as didn't test him. Same with MCCoy is solid and we let him have a field day pushing around a rookie and Piggy....
