Ron Riveria can't coach..

Awesomeness!!

Recommended Posts

When I look at a head coach I judge preparedness of the team, discipline, execution and overall gameplan.

All those things were lacking on Sunday.

Yeah I agree. The coaches got a pass last year because of the shortened offseason with no OTA's and a rushed training camp. This year however, they have had all the time in the world. If things don't tighten up quick, I think we can start labeling coaching an issue.

He was outcoached Sunday, no doubt about it.

But to write him off after a loss on the road to a division opponent with no tape to go off of, is premature in my opinion.

If these same mistakes continue into the mid part of the season, I'll jump on board. Next Sunday will be a true test as it will reflect his coaching ability to get his team to bounce back from adversity and either play at a higher level or fold.

Yea and it's starting to look like he's going to have another 6-10 team this year.

There's coaches out there for example our very own, John Fox who picked up a very very bad Denver team also last year and put them in the Divisional round of the playoffs. While we're here and settling on mediocre plays bc we've been so badd in the recent years.

You cnt tell me that almost 90 percent of the coaches in the NFL are not being inspired by their players.

fox had some very talented teams here that played like dog poo and lacked discipline too. just off the top of my head he was completely outcoached in the playoff game against the cardinals (fitz i think it was commented after the fact that they had our defense figured out after a series) and had no answer at all for the eagles' blitz in the 2009 opener. also, 2006 when the panthers broke the bank fielding a disgusting front four and upgrading at RB and WR while fox started deshaun foster and sent keyshawn johnson on fly routes.

we lost so many games in horrible, humiliating, pathetic fashion during fox's tenure here, but nobody remembers now. it's all about the high times in 2003 and 2005 and the fact that he backed in to a playoff spot in one of the worst divisions in the league last season. we'd better all get ready for an entire season of "oh god john fox was secretly bill belichick we fired the wrong guy!" as if john fox is sitting on the sidelines in denver calling peyton manning's plays.

Everyone, even coaches lay an egg on occasion. Is this a theme or abberation? We won't know that until the break at least.

Of course, if you guys want to fire a man who is a well respected coach around the league during the season causing your team to lose considerable morale and tank in our division... I'm all for it. Good post, in a bad game, it was still close for you guys. Go watch the times you played the Buccaneers last year. That was a coach who needed to get fired fast. (Raheem Morris) Games weren't close at all, blowouts all over the place.

Not saying we should have kept Fox or should t hsve fire the guy. It was clearly his time to go. Just saying we need another guy like Fox who has a approach to how we should play.

I haven't learn what RR's philosophy is other than being a nice guy. He's clueless. W/o Chud last year, RR would never get the praises he have going into this season.

I don't have the strongest confidence in this team's ability to manage the "situational football" scenarios. Picking up the pace and hurrying to the line, getting plays in quickly or altering the approach in order to increase the tempo, making the correct strategic decisions when the game is on the line. I'm not sold on Rivera in those aspects.

He's a rah-rah guy that gets fans fired up, so you're going to get flamed for this. I still think it's too soon to say he "can't coach", but he definitely rode on Cam and Chud's coattails last season and laid a big fat egg today with that gameplan.

Call me ignorant, but I'm willing to bet he left the offensive game plan to Chud. Defensively, we sufficed. Maybe he is a bad coach for putting the game plan in Chud's hands and go all spread all game?

It's too soon to tell, but yes my doubts are growing. If the team starts 0-4, 0-5, I wouldn't be surprised if he's on the hot seat. Finishing the year with a worse record than last, and there will be people calling for his head. Of course this is worst case scenario but looking at the schedule, 5-11 or 4-12 isn't out of the question.

If I have one issue with Rivera it's that he doesn't seem to have a sense of urgency at times and just in general with the team. He always preaches that 'it's a process' but in today's NFL 'processes' don't take as long as they used to. There are no 5-year plans anymore; it's 3 years max a coach has to show something. Not necessarily a playoff berth, but enough growth to indicate the team is headed in the right direction.

In an era where first year coaches routinely make the playoffs and turn things around in just one year, it's not unreasonable to expect the same out of Rivera, particularly with the talent we have, which is right there with most playoff teams. We have a QB now; no reason we shouldn't at least contend for a playoff spot from here on out.

If, by the end of the year, we're not any better than last year (anything worse than 8-8) I think Rivera's seat needs to get at least a little warm heading into next season, if not outright hot.

Dumbest topic of the week, Rivera was not the reason the panthers lost on Sunday it was execution on offense, large part the Oline and Cam, but it's a lot easier to say the coach is crap instead of blaming the entire offensive line and almighty Cam.

Also I know it happened with fox but teams don't usually go from having a 1-2 win season to playoffs and super bowl in 2 years.

don't get in the way of their hysterical overreacting hatefest.

once this team starts winning with cam and rivera (and it will) and/or their depakote kicks in these guys will be riding rivera's jock or will find some other person to blame and make a bitch thread about.
