Kuechly

FirstRoundPick

Good lord people.

I am certainly not calling the kid a bust, in fact I think that he will be a very good player.

I just didn't agree with the pick at the time, and still don't. That's it, like I said before, I support Luke, and am praying for him to turn into Urlacher 2.0.

Calm down folks.

Yeah, I think a lot of people here jumped the gun saying we are calling him a bust. All I'm saying is if he is not going to be on the field for 60% of the snaps, then as things stand now, he was a wasted pick. What drives me crazy is the amount of plays they have him off the field. When you pick a guy in the top ten of the draft, you expect him to get out there and earn that money. (Of course the rookie cap has eased the amount of money these guys get) Even though he starts the game, he is pretty much a back up. I'm more angry with the coaching than I am with Kuechly's play. (Which considering the amount of plays he does get, he's pretty good)

I mean we were talking about this guy possibly being the defensive rookie of the year. Now it looks like he will struggle to get 70 tackles for lack of playing time. So that is what I'm up in arms about. I think the whole defense needs to play better, and keeping Kuechly in the game would be a start.

The only ones defending him are the ones not willing to except he was a bad pick for this team.

OK, I'm a newbie but I'll take the bait. I don't accept that he was anything other than the BPA at the time. Furthermore, our entire LB core was down for the count at the end of last season. We needed one...a good one. We had no idea (and still don't know for sure), how healthy the injured players would come back, and how durable they would be. For example, as far as anyone knows, no one in the history of football has come back from 3 torn ACL's. So we drafted a 20 year old kid (Luke just recently turned 21 in April) who DOMINATED the entire NCAA in tackling and won virtually every award a defensive player can win. He has played TWO regular season games. Sure everything still seems fast to him...exactly as it should. These were the first words out of his mouth to RR after his first series on an NFL field.

The game will soon slow for him and he will become a fearsome beast for this team. When I'm not at a game, I'll visit the chat room on occasion just to drop in and say "I told you so" when this kid makes the SUPERSTAR plays some of you don't think he has the ability to make.

Where has anyone called him a bust? This is what I mean with you people. The kid is struggling and was a bad pick but that does not make him a bust. Still I'm not going to sit around and act like he is contributing like a starter should cause he is not. He is our 4th best LB on the team.

This is what patient, logical, realistic fans mean about you overreacting knee-jerk bumbs with clueless expectations come spewing meaningless nonsense on message boards. You say he isn't a bust after 2 games, just a bad pick. This is why our fan base is a joke around the league, and I have to agree.

Still missing the point. No one is arguing that he has talent and is raw.

Oh yeah? I'm not missing anything. Look at what I quoted. I responded to a post where it was argued that he was a BAD pick. He was a great pick (BPA) and we clearly needed him. Furthermore, he isn't THAT "raw." Anything but. He already has better tackling technique than almost anyone on the team. Look at the "wrap" he gets on tackles and compare it to all the total misses we've seen over the past season, and even now. Has he had a few clear misses? Sure. Is he playing well and doing what is asked of him? Also, yes. Let the kid mature a little. If there is any single position/player RR can identify with and has a personal interest in ensuring success with, it's this one.

Jesus, I'm not sure any topic has generated more stupidity than Luke Kuechly here lately. A couple of weeks ago, there was all this talk that he might break the NFL record for most tackles in a season as a fuging rookie. Before that, there was all this talk that we needed to move Beason back outside and let Kuechly take over at MLB. Now all these people act like he's a bust. That was and is all crazy talk. He's a rookie working his way into the NFL in a crowded LB corps. He's shown a ton of talent. He's gonna be a player, folks. Just be patient.

Give it another week and the Huddle shall swing back to Kuechly being DROY. The week after that? well he'll probably be a bust again..

have you ever sat on the toilet unloading your bowels for a good twenty minutes, knowing the toilet bowl is slowing accumulating, to lazy to flush it, not really checking to see how full it is, and finally, after putting off the inevitable for what seems like weeks, wiped, stood up, looked down, and witnessed the most vile brew of poisons concoctable by a biological system, turned your nose in disgust at the remains of the gastro-intestinal radiation, and wished you'd flushed earlier so you didn't have to look at it now?

that's what finally opening this thread was like.

Yea you are and the biggest things. He was a bad pick because he is not a immediate impact player that you draft in the top 10. Yes he has tackled well when its been simple iso runs to the left and right but other then that he has been picked on. Its the reason he was not starting the 2nd game because a FB the last game gashed him in the passing game. Not only that but he was faked out by Josh Freeman several time in that game. Yes he tackles well but he is a liability at every other phase of the game. You ask why is he taking on the FB? Well its because he cant do much else. Im sorry if I have burst your rosy colored bubble there sport but those are the cold hard facts.

Thanks for saving me the keystrokes. The only thing I would add to an already good post is that there is nothing wrong with breaking in a rookie properly. It is a luxury that we are able to do it. People have already forgotten that as late as preseason we weren't sure if Beas and TD were going to be able to play.

If one of those guys goes down, then Luke will get thrown into the fire like everyone seems to think he needs to be.

    • I'm glad my son watched this show because it sort of shined the light on some aspects of these hero athletes.  They are just human as the next person.   Throughout the show, Cam and Tate often showed they got some straight up weaknesses and flaws (some sort of surprising) that he didn't seem to expect.  Tate often was rattled.  Cam ultimately letting a bucket of water get the best of him was a surprise to him too.
