$20,000 is a good sign

I used to track the signing bonuses undrafted kids were getting in the days after the draft. They could range from no bonus at all to upwards of $25,000. If an undrafted player gets $20,000 or more to sign it means there were a number of teams after him and that the team that signed him had a draftable grade on the player.

WR/KR Larry Beavers and DT Marlon Favorite -- both with the Carolina Panthers -- and safety Colt Anderson with the Vikings are three undrafted players picked up who have significant signing bonuses and stand a good chance to make the squad, or at least the practice squad. You have to figure that six to eight undrafted players will make NFL rosters this year and another six to eight will be assigned to practice squads.

Very interesting. I would have thought Cadogan got the highest bonus. I still don't think Favorite or Cherry have a real good chance at making the 53. Cherry probably has a better chance. They will only keep 4 DTs IMO, so between Lewis, Kemo, Hayden, Irvin and Favorite, who do you think is the odd man out?

Hopefully the worse player is the odd man odd.

Do you not feel we have a better chance of stashing Hayden on the practice squad than the other two? I just have a feeling that the player who is the odd man out, will be the player who garnered the least interest from other teams. Think what we did with Mackenzy B last year.

    • They need him to be a good quarterback, he needs to play well. Drafting another quarterback would set this team back years, and we have holes all over the roster. The best-case is that he plays well enough for us to trade back in the first round and acquire several picks. Because of all this, as long as he is not awful, they are going to play him. That said, I can't tell you what Canales and Morgan are thinking. They may want to bring in their own guy, and I can understand that too.
    • It depends how you define "Pan out", if you mean by serviceable then they need to trade him. If you think he is still capable of being a top 10 qb one day then that's a reason to keep him. The panthers didn't draft bryce to be serviceable, they drafted him to be significantly more than that. Being serviceable doesn't guarantee you anything in the nfl. Serviceable is honestly just being a good backup.
    • The space balls part. It sounds not funny.
