so if its just the QB and RB then its only a dive and QB read. add another RB than you then have a dive, QB run, and pitch read.

You can do lot so things off of it....that is just the core of it. You can pass off it and add other wrinkles. Like when Williams takes a pitch or he goes downfield. Defense still has to be ready for Stewart or Cam every time they runa zone read.....then they play the other options

its hard because you never said that, you claimed that he was never part of the option read.when the entire play is a option read.

Well part of it is likely I assume people understand basic concepts of it...and granted maybe I should old have voiced it better. but I did say Williams could be invoked in the play....just not the zone read competent multiple times,

Not really, you still have to worry about a beast RB every down. You just won't have to be as confused about which one

This is true, we have much to be concerned about, you guys have many many weapons.

But we have a few too.

I just looked at the Radar, it is still raining at 12.15 pm, and there is still a band of showers offshore in the Gulf. Looks like it will be a wet game

Well that squashes all those spread read option looks Cam became so dangerous with. No other RB has done those with Cam

I think that is a big deal. Willams runs the more traditional stuff. Which he can do.....but the spread looks we near mastered at the end of last year

Well there is the uber pessimistic CRA we have come to expect.

I swear your head would actually explode if a positive and optimistic thought ever wandered into it.

spot on...but that would mean the pitches to williams are not read option plays since cam in fact draws the defense to him to get williams into open space.

there's nothing to read in that case.

Sure you are. As Newton gets the ball and make a few steps toward the end he watches to see what the end does. If the end pushes upfield and comes looping around, he doesn't pitch the ball and he runs to where the DE just vacated over tackle, If the end is coming straight at him, he waits until the end commits to him and then he pitches it wide to the back who is waiting for the ball and goes around the corner for a big gain if the receivers are blocking downfield. Everything keys off the end.

On the touchdown run pitch to Williams against NO, the action was going right which is where the blocking and the fullback went and Newton took a few steps that way and then pitched the ball to Williams who was going against the grain in a footrace to the corner. He actually did read the DE on the right side but it wasn't important as long as he didn't come in unblocked to blow everything up. Because the play was a misdirection designed to draw the left end inside trying to go across the play and make a tackle from behind. Instead he gets sucked inside giving Williams the edge and he only has to avoid a few tackles and he is gone.

    • Some of you who are not sold on Canales are insane. His main purpose was to turn around Bryce Young’s career and he did that. Of all of the teams in the top 10 of the NFL draft, we were the team that was consistently showing the most fight week in and week out. Our players never quit on the season. The offense which he is responsible for took a huge step forward compared to last year, despite the lack of skill talent  that we have. It was our defense that was a mess. That’s one of my critiques on Canales. He should’ve gotten rid of Evero and hired his own DC that shares the same vision. But as a whole, I can’t see how people are not pleased with what Canales did with this team. I’d give him an 9/10
    • One of the first thoughts after the game yesterday was that JT was going to jump all over it. He's been more favorable about BY from the beginning, and so yesterday must've felt like Christmas.
    • Maybe, but they were always going to be an impossible team to accurately mocked right now. They have an absurd amount of cap room, what they need right now will not be what they need come draft day.  They can make multiple big splash signings and even make trades for players who need new contracts and their teams don't want to give it to them. OT and WR might be their two biggest needs right now, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they could go into the draft needing neither of them.  I think a LT will be their top FA priority, also think they're going to make a big offer to Higgins, and I could see them being a team in the running to trade for someone like DK Metcalf as they need a WR like him and they have the cap space to give him a big new contract.
