Success in life...

This is one of the biggest lies ever told.

"But one of the smartest strategies of the world class is doing what they love and finding a way to get paid for it."

Because the reality is when you find a way to make your avocation your vocation it simply turns what you love doing into work.

I used to love working on and with computers. Before I got in the industry I would fix peoples computers and networks just for the chance to get to play with the tech.

Now fug a bunch of computers. I have one in my home and I wouldn't have that except for my wife wants it. The thought of spending any of my leisure time futzing around in the guts of a PC or writing code just makes me want to wretch.

I wouldn't even know where to start.

Take some online classes at a Community College...a wide range of them. I love taking one a semester just to give my brain something different to do or improve me in some way....like a creative writing class I just finished. It's not about where you go but how you get there....the journey vs the destination.

Maybe something will drive you in a direction.

I don't have a job. I make a comfortable living and provide for my family doing something I love doing.

I highly recommend it, but it requires years of busting your ass to get there.

As one who remembers the 24" lens at training camp I can vouch for you busting your ass.

that's the way I feel....

I cannot afford to not work and only go to school.

You can do both. My friend went to get his MBA and stopped working for two years...I asked him why he stopped working to pursue it and if it made business sense.

If he was making $60K before and 75K after MBA he lost out on $120K vs a net of 15K that will take close to 8 years to break even.

Same can be said for the Harvard grad with a degree in 18th century Russian poetry.

Congrats on that, but unless you plan on many years of grad school and a teaching gig (which is fine), don't occupy Wall Street because you didn't plan and simply pursued "what you love".

Do something only mildly nauseating and in demand, and find happiness in family, friends, and diversions you love.

Is greatness in life (you define) given or achieved?

How much does hard work play into it ?

How much does getting a "break" or being "lucky" play into it?

Curious what people will say.

Let's see...

-Born right before USSR fall appart.

-Barely escapted Chernobyl

-Lived through civil war

-Lost many friends and relatives

-Lived through massive economic colapse

-Came with my parents to US... spoke no english and we had no money (I had 5 t-shirts and 2 pairs of shorts and 1 pair of shoes for almost a 4 months)

-Finished high school with 2.02 combined GPA mostly due massive suspensions I got for fighting (Did not took poo from bullies)

-Went to CPCC for a year

-Finished UNCC with triple major and 3.4 combined GPA

-Currently working as a financial analyst

I start trying to do something with my life after high school... you can clearly see how it effected my life.

I consider my self lucky and I believe it's a privelage of where I am and what I have.
