2013 Draft Picks

EDIT: A lot of reports were saying that Jones was for a 2013 7th while what the trade for Murphy was wasn't officially disclosed. Murphy came at the cost of a 2013 7th round pick while Jones was for a 7th round pick. The team still has all of their 2013 picks aside from a 3rd (traded for Alexander) and 7th (traded for Murphy). Thanks Kurb!

The San Francisco 49ers are now in possession of Carolina's 3rd & 7th round picks for the 2013 draft. The 3rd was traded in order to draft Frank Alexander, while the 7th was sent for Colin Jones (whom the Panthers apparently have had their eye on since the last draft).

Louis Murphy came at the cost of a 4th or 5th round selection.

This leaves the team with a 1st, 2nd, 4th OR 5th, and a 6th round pick.

Do you think that this is a sign that the coaching staff likes what they're working with? Is this another reason that you hate The Hurney Badger? I don't see the team being able to trade up with the lack of ammunition, which makes me wonder if they're looking to trade one of the vets as the season goes on, or when the draft comes around. Obviously the draft is a ways off, so there isn't any reason to panic (but don't let that stop you!), but it does pose a few interesting questions.

I thought about posting this thread but choose not to because I felt it was too early and it is, but since it's here; I would say that Rivera and staff are comfortable with the players we have and feel that we only need a few upgrades.

    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
