Everett Brown better get use to being. . .

HAHAH, no doubt Rayzor. He has more moves than Pep. Well at the COLLEGE level he had more moves than Pep does now.

Yes Pep gets held sometimes very blatantly. Yes it sux. No it isn't the reason he hasn't "reached his potential".

u think that brown will do better in this regard. peppers is a bigger target and not as slick. brown uses his moves and size to his advantage. he's going to be a lot quicker than most of the giant OTs out there. i actually think offenses are going to have a harder time adjusting to him than he is to the pro game.

I concur rayzor. The kid seems to want to get better too and watches a ton of film. He has mentioned that he sets guys up too I believe which is the sign of a smart player (like Strahan for example). As athletic as Pep is, he shouldn't have to rely basically on one or two moves.

Peppers never got held. It has been added by the magicians and Skywalker Ranch to make the NFL look like they never make mistakes. Now I have to go into witness protection for that little tidbit...

I would agree with you guys that Peppers getting held is partly due to his athletic ability and partly due to his technique. From what little I have seen he seems to attack largely upright and usually moves into the defender and then tries to bull rush them or hooks an arm and tries to gain the edge by rushing around them. The problem is he is easy to grab on to and doesn't have a spin move or something which will break the hold. Guys like Freeney for example are harder to hold because they have a lower center of gravity, are harder to get your hands on and use spin moves or other techniques which breaks the hold.

So Brown may have some luck where Peppers doesn't in reducing the number of holds.

You would think he would have learned something in 7 years.

Guys who rely on their athletic ability don't feel they have to change their technique to succeed. It becomes both their biggest strength and potential weakness. Guys who don't have the innate talent often have to work on their technique and watch more film and rely on other factors than brute strength. In the end the guys who have better technique last longer and are productive when their physical skiils naturally wane as they age. Guys who have always relied on their athletic skills have to learn new tricks or watch as their skills and effectiveness are diminished. Kearse is a guy who has really tailed off due to injury and age. Peppers in a few years may be another.

Meeks was defiantly looking for another "freeney" type DE when we drafted him. But when you compare our defense to Indianapolis, even the teams that won the super bowl and were consistently in the playoffs, i believe our defense is much more talented. Interesting to see how Meeks does with more talent. IMO

I think that is what we are all waiting to see. Indy was good against the pass but not against the run. I hope we can borrow from the Colts what worked in their pass defense while staying strong against the run which has been our forte over the years.
