I know this guy said 10 years but that is boring because Marty holds onto guys way to long. You have to be a total disaster to get cut by the Panthers these days. Chad Cota, Steve Buerlein, Kerry Collins, Tyrone Poole, Moose, Deon Grant, are all guys that either hurt as a fan or did great things in other places.

The op is more specifically talking about cuts. The guy that comes to mind is Chuck Wiley. This bastard didn't do a damned thing after being a high draft pick. So he goes to the Falcons and plays like a pro bowler against the Panthers! He had 6.5 career sacks and 4 of them came vs. the Panthers.

I don't care if they did good elsewhere, I just don't care when we cut a player who is of no use to the current team, whether it be because the coach can't/won't develop him or he flat out sucks.

If Otah becomes a good player down the road for another team will you be upset that we cut him?

Your entire argument including your OP is riddled with loaded questioning and contradictory claims. Beyond that, if you think like you said that this franchise has never made a bad cut then you're delusional. Every franchise makes cuts that they were better off keeping, and in a ten year time span, I doubt you can find one team that didn't cut a single player that they could've used in the future or who contributed somewhere else.

Keep in mind if you respond to this I actually support the Panthers' decision to cut McClain.

It was a very short sighted post. I was bored this morning and killing time before work. I should have thought it through better and I did not. I'm guilty. Find another poster on here that will show such humility and I will give you pie and rep.

The only CUTS that bit us in the ass were Hate, Tony Brown and Evan Mathis...which I cannot fuging believe. Those guys are the only guys that I have ever said I wished were still panthers. The rest of the CUTS stayed scrap heap for the rest of their careers

There have been a couple but guys like Mathias and Butler were never a questioned cut at the time. Haye was one of those cuts that most wished he'd made the team but no one was really jumping off buildings over the cut.

The majority of cuts from across the league that end up having productive careers elsewhere are undrafted players. The Ravens cut James Harrison twice and the Steelers once for that matter before he became the DPOY. A combination of the investment, or lack thereof, and the overall lack of scouting on many of these guys lets them slip through quite often.

You guys named a bunch of players that would have never contributed to the roster they were cut from. Yes some of these guys bounced from a few teams and put together a few good seasons collectvely, but we can't just stash players on our roster for years at a time until we have an acutal use for them and hope they have developed by then.

Hell we could have had 90% of the players just by picking them up off waivers or signing them after being cut by other teams.

So Brown developed some consistency with the Titans. His numbers are no better than what Neblett put in half the snaps last year or Damione Lewis or Kris Jenkins did when we cut him in favor of them

So Mathis goes and spends 3 years with the bengals and does essentially nothing and has 7 starts over 3 years. Meanwhile we had Wharton, then he finally has a hell of a year in 2011. He was available at this point so we could have had him. Now we Amini who I would say looks likes he off to a much better career start than Mathis.

No just in Carolina and so Hurney has been fairly good about not cutting drafted players that pan out on other teams. Some teams are better at this than others but no team is great at holding onto all of the talented UDFA that come through camp.

That's not to say Hurney doesn't have his faults. But if he cuts a drafted player to me that says a lot based only on history. Of course now that I say this McClain will go on to be a HOFer...LOL
