The actual reason Armanti is on the team...

Sounds like some of you think Hurney makes these decisions in a vacuum. RR and his staff has a lot of input into who stays and who goes.

I think they see the work that Armanti has put into improving and are appreciative of that effort.

It's also commendable that the team rewards effort and dedication. This resonates with other players on the team and can have a positive effect on the whole locker room.

Is it worth keeping him if his ceiling is only a #5 WR? I say yes because his improvement and effort to get there was probably more significant than others that were cut.

Also guys like Jared Green and others can be stashed on the practice squad where AE can't. I'm pulling for him and I hope he continues to improve.

The Armanti project also made a lot more sense when the plan was to have an unathletic QB....

Now all those gadget plays with him behind C are pointless.

I thought Person made a good point...why not keep the better ST player when looking at the #5 WR spot considering that is what they will do? That wasn't AE.....

After Joe Adams muffed that punt I suddenly missed Armanti's reliability fielding a ball. He didn't make a single mistake fielding punts last season, and only fair caught the ball 9 times so he was under some pressure for most of those punts. Didn't do anything great with them, granted, but with our offense which would you prefer? A high risk, high reward guy like Adams or someone who will never lose a posession for us?

He was able to make the jump from lost to reliable in one season. No reason to doubt he can make the jump from reliable to effective this season.

If it "clicks" for Armanti he might develop into a competent backup wr, maybe the #5. Is that worth it?

if it really clicks for edwards and if he becomes what they hoped he would, he'll be the next smitty.

i think we saw in college what he's capable of with the ball in his hands...and he could be a real threat.

the issue is how to get the ball in his hands and get it to him in space, where he's really dangerous. it's also helping him get over that fear of getting hit.

now i don't have faith that he will live anywhere close to those hopes/expectations they had for him, but i'm hoping that he can get those issues worked out.

Tim, by that same logic would it not make sense to take the high risk high reward guy, give him a year to progress just ass armanti had, and then see?

I was very very high on Adams in this draft. I like his upside a lot more than Armanti's. (Granted, one is a true WR and the other a converted QB)

I do think there's nothing wrong with keeping armanti as insurance until gettis is back, simply because he knows the playbook and he did show progression this preseason. Might as well see what he's got one last time before we just crush him.

We've got a good squad here wether or not Armanti is the #5 guy.

If we had an average-to-clausen offense then it wouldn't even be a question. I'm very glad we got Adams, but his upside is roughly equivalent to our offense's. If he's more likely to turn the ball over than our offense is, then Aramanti's reliability is more beneficial to the team.

I have no problem with giving him a year to progress, but having a reliable guy ready to take your spot will speed that progression up and give us an option to turn to if he can't change his ways.

Armanti Edwards is on the roster because David Gettis is on the PUP. Simple as that. The Panthers have been carrying 6 WRs on the roster for many years and the numbers game is why he's still here.

Smith & LaFell are your starters

Murphy is the #3

Pilares and Adams are KO and punt returners and are also #4 and #5

Edwards is in at #6 and while he made the 53-man roster, he likely won't dress for the gameday 45-man roster for a majority of the games..

what happens when Gettis comes back? Somebody is going away...

There lies the issues the converted QB out performed the true WR's in camp showing his improvements and as Hurney stated in the video 1 year to learn and 1 year to train and hopefully this will be the year he perform what they projected him to be. :)

Would not be surprised to see AE returning punts early this season. Adams put an awful lot of balls on the turf and probably is not in the staff's good graces right now.

Pilares would be the most at-risk of that group and I don't see him getting cut, so I agree they would have to keep 7 WRs but it's doable.

Compared to the end of yr 1 under Rivera we're currently heavy on LB's (7 vs 6) and OL (9 vs 8) and light on D-Linemen (8 vs 9). We also had two kickers at the end of last year, and Kunalic took Jason Phillips' roster spot so let's say we're on schedule at LB.

O-Line is a possible casualty (Jeff Byers being an obvious candidate since Hangartner is a reasonable starting center), and while we're carrying 9 DB's as we did last season, we're at 5 S and 4 CB vs the opposite last year. Colin Jones could be cut if he doesn't impress or DJ Campbell could be shuffled to the practice squad if they want to risk it.

Neblett is also not currently counting toward the final roster and he'll be added before Gettis, and this is all assuming we keep Neblett, Gettis gets in shape, and all WR's stay healthy.

Best I can remember, Edwards wasn't that good at fielding the ball at first. Took him a while to get comfortable with it. Hopefully, Adams calms down and gets better at it, because he seems to be explosive if he can hang on to it.
