Kealoha Pilares

WIth out his fluky long one against one of the worst coverage teams in the NFL, his average drops to 22.27 or good enough for 23rd.

That'd be 2 spots above Hester....that guy must suck too.

As RR says, look at the body of work. That body includes a TD return. Not sayin' he's megastar...just give him credit for what's done, including that "fluky" long one.

my point is, what can he do for us RIGHT NOW? he is buried behind receivers, and there is no hope for him getting out. if he can't contribute elsewhere, e.g., in the kick return game, then what is the rationale for keeping him on the squad. trade him to a team that needs receivers in a bad way, and ask for a speed guy in return.

i understand wanting to develop your young guys. but sports are about the here and now. just ask the dodgers.

Hester is one of the all time bests......at punt returns. He's average at KR's.

I do give Pilares credit for what he's done, and that credit makes him an average to below average kickoff returner.

I dont see him being buried behind receivers. I see him as our 4th receiver/ slot. I see him behind Louis Murphy.Tutu isnt getting it done. Joe Adams isnt ready, or he'd get more opportunities. AE is done... And Gettis is hurt. WE NEED receivers.

I dont think KP is in a developmental stage... He just needs more playing time. And as he gets it, he'll show up. Again Steve Smith called him a fantasy sleeper. I think Smitty knows good receivers.

Huh, trade him? Everyone wants Armanti and Tutu cut and the other guys we have left are scrubs from camp. That leaves us with Smith nursing an injury, Lafell, and Murphy.

Yeah we should definitely be ridding ourselves of wide receivers right now.

I don't really understand your question? He is the 4th receiver, and basically an extra body unless we get some injuries in the receiving corps. Whats the rationale for keeping anyone that low on the depth chart on the team? We can't afford to stock the team with high priced stars at every spot, so the question is not what can he do for us, but could we replace him with someone who is a better value? Since we are going to keep at least 6 receivers, who else might we get that would be an improvement over Pilares, and wouldn't break the bank financially? Trading for a "speed" guy is actually not that easy. If another team has a speed guy who is can actually hang on to the ball, I doubt they would be willing to trade him for anything we might be willing to give up. If they are willing to trade the speed guy, then I would be wondering if he can hang on to the football. I would rather have a guy with good speed who can hang on to the ball (Pilares) than a guy with great speed who can't.

Fwiw, the only important question regarding Pilares is, is he better than his competition (edwards and tutu). IMO, the answer to that question is yes.

I wonder if he goes another season without a catch if he will start getting the Armanti treatment around here. cause lets face it, with healthy Gettis he is at best 4th on the depth chart and for god knows what reason Rivera apparently has Ajirotutu ahead of him right now. and lets face it, aside from that TD he is a lackluster kickoff returner. i think we all hope Adams can wrestle that job from him as well.

I think Pilares can be a decent WR (slot), but if he doesn't do jackshit for 2 seasons in a row,he'll get the same treatment around here as Armanti. As will ANY WR.

We need to wait and see what Pilares can do with some substantial playing time and with Cam throwing him the rock. I think Kealoha can be a threat in the open field if he can get the ball in his hands. Numerous times this pre-season I was impressed with his yards after catch and his ability to make something out of nothing. I think with Cam, 89, DWill and Stew, Olsen, and LaFell on the field it may allow Pilares to break-out and take advantage of his match ups.
