can someone tell me whats fast and aggressive about droping into coverage all the time...i hear people say when talking about meeks he likes fast and aggressive system..so what does that mean if he does not like to blitz...in the cover 2

good catch. they haven't mentioned that or really that it is a tampa2....just that it is going to be tailored to the players that we have.

fast, aggressive, and hard hitting and that is what he said we drafted as well.

just to be clear, you aren't doubting what beason is saying, are you?

what he is saying is fast and aggressive is what they do and that is attacking wherever the ball is. what is aggressive is the front 4 and the pressure that they consistently are going to be putting on the QB.

you can have a fast and aggressive defense without blitzing. the colts have had a very aggressive defense, especially their front four without blitzing.

the players and people who went to minicamp said that he is pushing the defense to attack. it isn't a passive defense with a bend but don't break mentality. his defense has been described as piranha-like. the players have talked about him getting them to swarm to the ball. that's pretty aggressive, imo.

When Beason says he likes that Meeks is going to run a fast and aggressive defense.. And I agree with Rayzor, but I don't think it has as much to do with the D-Line as it does in the sense of the defense swarming to the ball and never giving up on a play.

Naturally, the D-Line is going to fall into that category but I don't think it applies just to them. I actually think it has more to do with the defense as a whole attacking people with 100% aggressiveness, swarming to the ball carrier, defending passes in coverage, letting Chris Harris destroy guards who think they have size over his power. =P (etc, etc, etc)

You don't have to Blitz to be aggressive. Refer to above on another aspect of being extremely aggressive. Sure, blitzing is aggressive and can be a great quality to have... but to be aggressive doesn't mean you have to blitz every down.

And props to Mintal... Actually, in one interview Meeks points out he is going to have aspects of a cover 2 in game, but that it isn't a pure cover 2 or tampa 2.. The D-Line stance is going to stay the same with Kemo in as a nose tackle. And that's also not to say the base defense is cover 2... kind of the same idea of having the O-Line zone block... (I'm not a defense guru, so take all with a grain of salt. =P)

I think this team knows how good it is... I expect a fun season again this year, but to make the Superbowl takes a lot going your way. We'll see how it goes.....

We've actually employed a cover 2/ Tampa 2 defense on occasion for years. I just don't think the plan is to use it as a base defense. That's been the fans and media that have said that, not the team...

agreed... On that point, Fox also went on to say all defenses are a variation of cover 2... (not exact words of course. =P)
