Some quick notes I made after watching the first half again.

So I went back and watched the game on preseason live to see what I could pick up on that I missed the first time. I am always amazed by the things you can pick up during a second viewing with the emotion removed from watching the game live. On offense most will remember the good, so I'm only going to point out the mistakes by the guys in the trenches and a couple made by Cam.

Offense mistakes/errors/got beat/etc by the line and Cam

First Drive

This was a terrible drive for every offensive lineman not named Gross

First ugly play was Deangelo's fumble, after Cromartie shoved Olsen out of the way and got his helmet on the ball. Williams then lost control of it as he was falling forward, but luckily Olsen was there to recover it.

Ellis got one of his big plays against us on a 2nd down handoff to Stewart

First he beat Kalil one on one then Hangman tried to chip him unsuccessfully and Stewart was stuffed.

Then it was Bell's turn to screw up and let the outside linebacker blow right past him untouched, fortunately cam scrambled for a positive gain.

Next up Hangartner got beat vs Ellis for a sack on Cam(held onto the ball over 5 seconds before Ellis got to him fwiw).

The final error by our line this drive came on the 3rd down and 11 play. Jets only rushed 3 but Muhammed Wilkerson got right past Kaili quickly to force Cam's rushed throw that sailed over Murphy's head.

2nd drive

Tolberts turn for a screw up.....We had a nice toss going to the right side to Stewart and had everyone blocked but Tolbert could not locate Bart Scott quick enough to keep him from stuffing Stewart as he came in unblocked.

Next screw up was on Silatolu..The Jets brought 6 on the blitz and attacked our left side. Silatolu did not recognize the blitz and went to help Kalil double his man. Meanwhile 2 guys broke through and Stewart did his best to take them both on long enough to let cam escape to the right..which eventually caused Bell to lose containment on his guy and Cam just threw it away

3rd drive

Only wrote 1 note on this drive for some reason. "on 2nd and 9 Cam staring downfield, missed Harstock open in flat, overthrows Tutu in double coverage".

4th drive

Cam decides to lock in on receivers downfield, proceeds to hold on to ball too long, then slips and in a careless manner lets Coples knock the ball out, presumably because he thought he was down by contact.

5th Drive

Short series.

The killer was Silatolu letting Maybin blow right past him and forcing cam to throw it away.

The final drive of the first half was a short drive and easy TD to Murphy.

Now for the Defense

1ST Jets Drive

They got a nice completion to Keller on playaction where Kuechly and Phillips were sucked in to cover the back, which left Godfrey one on one after playing 7 yards off the line. He quickly made the tackle after a good gain for the jets.

Next Turner found a soft spot in between Kuechly who dropped in coverage and Gamble for a nice catch.

The line did a nice job holding point of attack only allowing a 1 yard gain to the right.

Next play was a screen that was sniffed out by Kuechly and Kearse for no gain on third down.

Jets 2ND Drive

Good 3 and out capped off by Davis sack on 3rd down.

Jets 3rd Drive(their best one)

Captain gets his first penalty for holding against Hill.

Next highlight was Edwards getting by Mangold who went to the ground and forced Greene outside for a 5 or so yard gain after they swallowed up Gamble,Johnson and Anderson.

Next play Fua plows past Mangold but Sanchez slips away to the right where Johnson was doubled and Nakumara who playing close the line could have sacked him if not for a good block by Greene.

At this point Nate Chandler and every other combo of DT'S have start getting a look as well.

Kuechly comes charging in for another stuff and then gets knocked back by the FB, but still manages to make the tackle.

Now its 3rd and short and Sanchez finds Holmes on a quick slant for the first down vs Norman.

Looks like the Jets are poised to get their first TD in preseason but Thomas Davis makes a great play in coverage against the TE who broke his ACL, when Norman leaves his man to help support Davis on third down.

Jets 4th Drive(After Newton fumble)

Munnerlyn picks up his 2nd penalty of the night, setting up first and goal for the Jets.

Then everyone put in a good effort for a no gain run on the 1s and goal.

on 2nd and goal we got hardly any pressure because of weak personal with Chandler getting some more looks.

3rd and goal was interesting formation with only 2 down lineman (Alexander and Hardy). We only rushed 3 and Sanchez couldn't find anyone so he took off for the goal line and then Davis who was dropped in zone coverage came and up and made the stop.

The next drive we got lucky with Munnerlyn getting the easy pick off the receivers hands. Would have been bad had he caught it as Munneryln was beat bad on the play.

Then they threw in towel on their final drive after our TD to end the half.

Jets also came out with their first team again in the 2nd for a 7th drive that resulted in a missed field goal.

Final Thoughts

Now that I got most of my complaints out of the way, we did pretty well. Olsen made a few nice catches, Cam got us down field and in the end zone to capitalize on the turnover. Murphy solidified why he should be number 3. Lafell showed his knack for making the big catch on third down again.

Davis was the highlight of the game making 3 very nice plays in very few snaps. We only allowed 3 field goals on 7 drives vs their first string offense who desperately wanted to score, including one that started in the red zone because of Cam's fumble. While our offense left a lot to be desired we probably we went against a top 5 D without Smith and still were able to move the ball some.

I feel a good portion of our offensive deficiencies were caused by miscommunication between Kalil and Amini. 5 seconds isn't too unreasonable for Cam to hold the ball, especially considering we should have one of the better Olines in the league.

Tutu can't cut well enough vs corners that good. Revis and Cromartie will jump anything thrown his way.

In general it seems most of our poor plays were just one guy being in the wrong place - when blocks were thrown nobody really got dominated, seemed like just a lot of missed blocks. Hopefully these kinks are worked out by season opener, we have a complicated offense and everyone needs to be on the same page.

Nice write-up!

Yeah, I also saw a formation I don't recall us playing before, which was a 2-4-5

I just hate that we've been showing these different looking formations, but we're not blitzing out of them. We need to practice our blitzes if we plan on being any good at it.

Everyone but the two DT's.

It was pretty much our nickel package with Hardy and CJ at the DE spots, and standing up, but I couldn't tell who was lined up inside.

The 11th guy should've been CJ

2-4-5 isn't uncommon anymore. Packers use it plenty, many 3-4 teams use it to go to nickel and show a 4-man line type look without having to have their outside rushers with their hands on the ground. It more easily transitions a 3-4 look to nickel for those teams, though for Carolina it's just a look to have your edge rushers stand.

When you get a chance look at the play right before the play were TD gets his sack.

That's the play I was referring to, and I was wrong, we were in our base defense on that particular play, with the only down linemen being Kearse and Edwards. Hardy and CJ were standing up, and we had all three LB's on the field.

If we ever start blitzing out of these different looks I've been seeing, it could get real interesting.
