Gettis on the PUP list

Soooo where have you been all last season and this preseason? I must have missed something here. You were looking at #11, right?

I didn't see anything spectacular. Did he make good plays? Yes. Did he make plays that said he should be a starter? No, not really. LaFell would definitely be a number three receiver on a lot of teams around the league.

I just don't feel that number 2 vibe coming from LaFell. He just doesn't have that spark. I keep waiting for him to have that moment, that one catch that says "Here I am!", but instead his play just says "blah". I see his potential as being a little better than Proehl, and that doesn't cut it for me. (I see LaFell as a #3)

Gettis had that swagger late in his rookie season. He saw an opening, and he made the plays that said "Here I am!" How many signature youtube plays does LaFell have from his rookie season? I can think of at least two from Gettis.

before he got hurt last year i felt gettis had the ability to unseat smith once he started to slow down, he still may do that at some point. but i think you are over looking lafell's improvement up to this point. he's become a above average blocker & route runner not to mention he makes big catches when we need them

It amazes me that people are still hating on LaFell after some of the catches and games he had for us last season. You do know he OWNS the Panthers record for longest catch right? 91 yrds kid GET FAMILIAR!

Stop trollin' guy and get on the LaFell wagon, it's simple as that.

And let me guess, Gettis would be #2 on most teams?

Most of his stats his 1 year was against SF anyway, where they had literally all 11 defenders 5 yards away from the LOS and were jumping our gimpy short routes.

Yay we hit a few over the top and on a double move like an NFL team should when so many defenders are in the box. Hooray for our team they play in the NFL!!!

lafell was the starting receiver against the jets first team defense... playing against arguably the best secondary in the league he consistently got open against CB1 and CB2s and caught everything thrown his way.

not sure what you're looking for in a WR2 but if this isn't it go ahead and propose trades for larry fitzgerald or something

All that we have to go on is production on the field. I don't care that Gettis had 500 yards and 3 tds his rookie year with Pickles throwing him the ball. I watched everygame in 2010 and he wasn't anymore special than Brandon Lafell. The only difference is he has 4.4 speed. Lafell has better hands and is a better route runner. Lafell is more likely to make the wooooow catches than Gettis. I haven't seen Gettis make any wow catches yet. I remember against the 49ers he had that game winning TD pass but he also dropped a TD pass that was right in his hands. Gettis hasn't played in a year and it doesn't look like he's going to play this year either. Honestly I know Gettis has talent but, RR wouldn't have brought Nanee and Seyi in as competition last camp if Gettis was all that impressive. We both know how bad they are. If Gettis would've played last year, i still don't think he would have been the starter.

Murphy>Lafell>Gettis

I agree whole heartedly. Still, I want my number 2 receiver to do damage. He may prove me wrong once the regular season start, but I just don't see that potential in his game so far. People keep saying that LaFell earned the number 2 spot, and I personally cringe a little at that because it says that LaFell is our best receiver after Smitty. I just can't wait for Gettis to get back on the field, and surprise a lot of people, and show them how it's done.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Cam completed a pass against either Revis or Cromartie. All of them were against the number 3 and 4 corners. Yet anyway, I don't hold it against LaFell for not having a good game against the Jets. All I'm looking for in a number 2, is someone who can have a Muhammad type impact on the game. Most of LaFell's impact in games were more on Proehl's level of play. (Yet his blocking is superb)

The one thing I remember most about that 91 yarder, is Steve making two blocks. I also remember LaFell's fourth down reception against the Vikings, yet he also failed to outrun the defenders or even break a tackle. LaFell is a possesion receiver who's a little above average. Now, I may be a little spoiled from the Smitty/Muhammad days, but I want my number 2 receiver to have the ability to take over a game.

I agree with you on that part. Lafell possesses very little run after the catch ability. i remember in the jets game when he made that catch on the sideline he didn't even try to turn it up and get extra yardage. I have seem that a few times from Lafell

Lets be real here man...

How many teams have a #2 WR that can take over a game, then out of those teams, how much of that is on the QB?

You got GB, NE, NO, NYG, Steelers and arguably ATL that have #2's that can take over a game...

And some of those #2s are TEs not WRs
