Shopping For TVs on Craigslist

Yeah, I've run into similar stuff when I was selling before, which turned me off of Craigslist for quite awhile. I get that people are going there looking for bargains, but some people just lack all sense of tact and/or etiquette when it comes to negotiating.

I was selling a bike on there a couple months back and got crap like this (abbreviated and edited for brevity and privacy reasons, but mostly just location info, names, etc.):

Two problems right off the bat. First, where in that exchange did I invite this creeper to my house? Second, where did I ever give any hint that I would be interested in any watercraft over cash?

Just insulting, lol. Another guy lowballed me and I told him the least I'd do was $175. He emails me back and tells me to lower the asking price so he can buy it, saying something like "Dude, no one is going to pay you what you're asking for that bike, lol. I'll buy it for ___." Like he was doing me a favor or something, smh... Within days, someone bought it for the $185 I was willing to sell for.

gosh those awful hagglers just ruining your pure CL experience

sometimes i lowball people on there just to see if i can get away with it. if you don't want to deal with hagglers, don't use CL

It's the shows now like American pickers and pawn stars that have everybody thinking that they are professional barterers and they want to haggle to the point where it's fuging rediculous

craigslist has always been like that. you're just now noticing because of shows like american pickers and pawn stars.

i bet you pay sticker price at flea markets and yard sales too. i love selling junk to chumps like you that just pony up

protip: next time you put something on craigslist, ask 10-20% more than what you really want for it, then barter down to what you want/will accept.

its not rocket surgery guys

as for buying a tv on craigslist...that's a good way to get a cockroach infestation, among other things. don't do it.

Nah, I get the bargaining is a part of the game. That's the point behind Craigslist. But, it's idiots that waste your time and then don't go through with it, idiots that don't realize items depreciate (especially TVs) and ask for a ridiculously high amount to begin with, or idiots that invite themselves to your house and tell you what you need to sell your item for that really irk me.

As for that bike I was selling, I negotiated an awesome deal for it. They were asking for $300, I offered around $185 or so if I remember right and they said they couldn't go that low. I told him I could go $200 and they accepted. I got home, rode it, and quickly realized that it wasn't what I expected and had to sell it. I listed it at $200, and set my minimum for $185. After a week or so, I sold it for $185.

I've bargained down several things on there and always offer significantly less than what they are asking for. Typically, I look for items that have been on there a couple days and tell them if they haven't sold it yet, I'll offer something like half of what they are selling it for. But, I don't do it in an insulting manner. Sometimes I'll come up, sometimes I won't and we leave it at that... No biggie.

But, as I said, with that bike, some douche kept emailing me about the bike but demanded I sell it to him for what he was asking and said I'd never get what I was wanting for it, lol.

When I sell, I always sell high and set a minimum that I'll settle for as well.

As far as the TVs, I didn't even think about the bugs... Good looking out. I may just go with what someone suggested earlier and do a refurb off of Ebay. I'm also looking out for an IPod Touch 32gb right now because

or refurb from www.newegg.com

i'd have just told that douche the fug off. i've pissed off a few people on CL telling them they're never going to get what they were asking for. but they were asking retail price for new items.

it only pisses me off when its something i'm looking for

edit: new items was supposed to be used items. oh well.

Lol, I'm the same way. That's what I was referring to by the amount of idiots on there now (the ones asking for retail or close to it on extremely used items). I don't remember it being like that a few years back... I had noticed it here and there but when I started looking for a TV, it couldn't be ignored. People asking for $250 on a 3 year old 32" television... Stuff like that. Most TVs I've bought brand new from brands like Samsung and Sony only last 3 years, so knocking $100 off isn't cutting anyone a deal.

In the case of the bike I sold, yeah, he was just off his rocker. The bike was only a few months old according to the guy I bought it from (and still good for repairs under the warranty for another year or two), and brand new, those bikes are like $500 and up.

This dude wanted it for like $110, lol.

And I'll check out newegg, I've heard a lot of people talking about it, but I have yet to look at it.

Pretty much this.

I wasn't saying all haggling is bad, just the ones that take it to the extreme and you can tell that they suck at it

    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
    • 6-10 carries for  35-45 yds and 3-5 catches for 15-25 would be great.
