draft class of 2010

Realistically if 30% of your draft picks pan out then you're doing things right. 2009 and 2010 were particularly awful, but I blame 2009 on Fox trying to save his job and then 2010 on him not giving a poo and Hurney just drafting on his own. Considering there was no direction for the future in 2010 it's no surprise that that draft turned out awful. Coaches do have a large input into drafting decisions and we seem to be trending in the right direction since we got Rivera.

Fox deserves a good chunk of the blame for the bad drafts. He always had Hurneys ear. '09 wins as the worst draft because Everette Brown cost us a 1st round pick in 2010. I wonder if we didn't make that trade would we have used our 1st round pick in '10 on Jimmy? We may have traded down a bit before drafting him.

it seems people are still sleeping on this most common fact.. a coach about to get fired was clearly desperate to make moves, especially after the owner gave him an open check book to have back to back winning seasons...

Look at all the players drafted after our picks... always a lol

I remember stewing about Sherrod Martin over CB Sean Smith. Sean Smith could have been converted to safety too.

Before anyone makes fun of Hurney Darius Butler, was picked 41 overall by the genius! Belechick misses more than anyone in the draft..sure they trade down to aquire picks but until the Gronk,Arron Hernandez draft most have been full of guys that get cut out of camp.

2009 was the worst, but the team was in an upheaval we weren't aware of yet. The Panthers were trying to hold on to what they thought was a playoff team, and were making reaches accordingly. The Brown draft was out of desperation in case Peppers held out.

While no one could have predicted that the Arizona game was the end of jake, the biggest fault here was that they didn't blow it up. That would have to wait a year.

They wouldn't have gotten Cam if they had though, so take that for whatever it's worth.

I think the biggest lesson to take from this is don't let your team's position influence how you draft.

Draft and team needs should always be separate. Fill your team with as much cheap talent as possible, conserve future picks, and go from there.

If the panthers did not trade away future picks.. as Fiz's (should be a life lesson statement as a GM) is saying.. That draft would not have looked as bad.

Well they probably wouldn't have gotten Everette Brown.

They would have got like Trevor Laws or something.
