Disappointed in last nights game

Getting too close to real thing to throw out bogus predications now?

i think we'll be top 15 and that top 10 isn't out of the realm of possibility.

i think we've got the talent, experience, coaching, health, and time needed for this defense to get respectable again.

I fear some of you have unrealistic expectations about preseason games. So Cam had an "off" night? Well, he put up a better stat line and QB rating than the 1st two QB's that faced the Jets this year (Eli and Dalton), and he did it without his go-to guy.

The game left me with just two concerns...kick coverage and DL pressure.

I am not seeing any progress in our coverage units. We have run many players out on ST's and the results continue to be iffy at best. We just don't seem to have any answers for this deficiency, and it's troubling.

Regarding the DL, I think we still lack talent, and will have to be patient until talent can be added in the offseason.

Everything else seems on schedule.

The Jets have a good secondary, and defense for that matter...

The Panthers were without their #1 WR...

It is preseason... a meaningless game...

The Jets didn't score a TD...

Our backups looked better than their backups...

It is preseason... a meaningless game...

I actually think Captain looked pretty good. He had an interception and made some good open field tackles on players that had almost 40 pounds on him. He is fine and will lose his job to Norman and play the nickle position like a god.

If only all ints came from getting beat and the ball bouncing out of the receivers hands into your body, he could be a beast.

Right so a #2 is supposed to get open against a pro bowl corner without his #1.

Smith would have altered the coverage (drawn the safety out of the middle and allowed Olsen a heyday) Revis himself has admitted in the past he is the hardest receiver he has ever had to cover.

Altered the coverage and done what? given our other WR a one on one matchup? They had that one on one matchup.....the only thing left would be if the Jets didn't cover him.

I didn't expect big plays.....it is a too notch secondary but other teams have made catches on them in the preseason. A single catch would have been nice to see against a starting Jet CB. Just shows how valuable Smitty is.

  • 2 weeks later...

offense was without smitty and barely had the playbook opened up and still managed to do pretty much whatever it wanted. you could tell they scaled things back quite a bit....and they did it against the jets D. if both teams were going full bore i expect we'd see the same outcome.

the defense did exactly what they were supposed to do... keep the other team from scoring TDs.

what's not to like? that game did absolutely nothing to dampen my expectations for this year. i mean did people expect us to blow the Jets D out of the water and shut the jets offense completely down (rather than just make them impotent)?

Seems they didn't open the Playbook today either against Bucs! How long before we see it?
