Old story about Pep in the 3-4........

Sorry to post another Pep story, but I thought this was interesting given the current situation. Found this old article on ESPN written by Michael Smith where Pep basically says that he hated playing in the 3-4. How times have changed.......

When do fans start get fed up? I know some of us are but at some point the majority says F U to peppers. many fans still are ready to welcome him back 100% because he is so talented.

As has been said he wants to be an outside linebacker which gives you the tackles and sacks without having to do the work. That is what he wants- no double teams, and the ability to flow to the ball and get tackles and sacks without having to do the dirty work.

count me in on the ones ready to welcome him back. Look, he played out his contract here then said he wanted to play somewhere else. He never held out or demanded a raise. It's his life, if he wants to work under some other coaches, it's his right. We tagged him and he hasn't said anything. He hasn't bashed the FO or the coaches. What has he done wrong? I know you may say he has handcuffed our salary cap, but the FO made that decision. Plus, if I recall correctly, 10 teams are still waiting on their franchise player to sign the tender. It's just what happens. Veterans don't want to go to TC, and if they don't sign the tender, they don't have to.

At this point, I will welcome him back to the team, but I don't have any special sadness if he goes. I just want him to sign his tender or work on getting a trade and bringing it to the FO. CHOOSE!

I for one did not bad mouth JP. I think this contradicts his stance he is taking today. I do understand people can change their mind, but the article does bring up a valid argument in the sense that his stance is he used to hate the 3-4 but now thinks it would fit his game much better

He has been bashed up and down for something he cannot legitimately be blamed for to the point that even his teammates feel bad for him (beason's blog)

It's really sad how blind some fans can be don't you agree.

and if he is contradicting himself about wanting to play 3-4, so what,things change, people age. If he is lying about it though and really has no interest in playing 3-4 true to his statement posted, it makes our org. look worse. That would mean he is making up poo to give us an out because he does not want to come out and say what he really thinks (possibility?)

It really is very simple. He said he hated being a down linemen in the 3-4 which is analogous to being a DT in a 4-3. You routinely get doubleteamed and your job is to take up two offensive players so the linebackers can get a free shot on the runner or the quarterback.

He wants to be the linebacker in a 3-4 who gets all the glory the tackles and sacks without doing the dirty work. Very different position and role than what is mentioned in the article. So his position has really not changed at all.
