I look at this as a statement game!

No such thing as a preseason statement game.

With that kind of expectation, you will only be disappointed.

This, being the third preseason game, which the starters play the longest, is the most exciting of the preseason games.

it is the most exciting but it is still pointless.

coaches arent calling plays to win the game, they are looking at very specific things out of specific players that we really cant see when watching.

even if we get whooped but say the game fully solidifies who we are playing at certain positions (cb #2, the whole WR mess, mclain's backup, etc) then it's a victory in the coaches eyes.

Well said. I think the coaches want the execution on the field and nothing says success like a higher score than your opponent, but still, this is preseason and they are really looking at the game(s) within the game: Specifically, I think they will be watching:

1. WR without Smith. With him being out someone has to step up. That means the guy battling for #3 will need to be able to step up and become a #2. This should weed out the pretenders.

2. Defense with Thomas Davis. I think they will be evaluating him and for that reason may hold back on some of the play calling

3. Who is our #2 corner.

4. Who is our kicker/punter

5. How do the starters respond to half time adjustments.

6. 1st Cuts: The final 1 1/2 quarters will be spent determining who survives first cuts and who doesn't have a job Monday afternoon.

As another poster said, as long as we come out healthy, it's a win.

That said, if we can move the ball well on a stout Jets D, it should give us a lot of confidence headed into the regular season. No predictions from this quarter other than it's going to be fun to watch the guys in primetime.

The only statement I want fromt his game is that we are still improving. I want the ones and twos to look good. So that means I want 3 quarters of good football. If that happens it definately makes the statement that we are coming.

If the D can continue to improve, and put pressure on the Jet's Offense that will be a statement. If our D can play good to well, we should be ready to go.

So yeah, in our situation, this game can make a statement.

Its primetime preseason or not - and we will get to see our starters for a while - that in itself is reason to celebrate for me - I dont even remember our last prime time game.

I think our last PT game was against the Dolphins in 09?

Yeah, it's easy to say a preseason game is pointless---meaningless---all that. But, I still want to win. I mean if it were anybody but the Jets (or the Cowboys)...I really wouldn't give a crap, but the Jets have been pretty much disjointed and horrible. Moreover, being that most of our starters will presumably be in for most of this game...during prime time...in New York City...a victory will be just what the doctor ordered to solidify team morale and get that buzz churning about how the Panthers may be even more underestimated coming into the season (or, perhaps provide more fuel for the they-are-who-we-think-they-are folks that ain't giving us much of a chance to improve upon 2011, if we lose).

BTW, I am 100 percent sure that the coaches want to win, and will do everything they can toward that end (within reason).

I'm sorry, this isn't a statement game...I would say that would be something that would occur in the regular-season. Don't get me wrong, I love and am excited by the chance to see more of the 1's. However, it still is pre-season, e.g. like someone else said, I think this is more about evaluation than winning. To that point, all I hope is we leave with no injuries, we get more clarity on some of the positions that are under competition, and the 1's have a decent showing.

I think you underestimating our O. Smith not being there hurts absolutely, but we have weapons

With that being said, there's no need to a have any type of breakdown over a preseason game unless we flat out just look terrible. Just remember defenses get tired, so if the offense not helping them they will get tired

I am acknowledging it is preseason. They don't run Cam and the O in the preseason like they do regular season. Less dangerous. Textbook stuff...

My take woud be different if it were a regular season game. Cam would be more involved. They limit him in the preseason. So it is more than Smith being out. It is a milder version of Cam and the O. We will be asking Cam to hand off and make throws to our WRs in a more traditional aspect.....
