Removing the franchise tag from Julius Peppers is the best option.

People have used the franchise tag in many different ways. Besides, I'm only saying this because of a book I had a read for a class. Now I feel like making nonsensical analogies to everything..

Also, which GM do you want us to have out of the entire league?

the one that would have let peppers walk which is pretty much none of them.

Ithink our team is in a window here. Delhomme is only going to be around for a few more years. Smth will only be in his prime for a few more years. Were coming off the best rushing offence we have even seen from the panthers. So we need to KEEP TALENT HERE.

Pep is hands down the best player on the D-line. Letting him walk will not help us. The FO know what they are doing. Im sure this was not a spur of the moment decision.

Sorry Fiz. The ability to make the right decision was aborted when the tag was placed. It's too late to salvage this debacle now no matter how extremely they change their strategy.

Not really, The Seahawks used the tag in a similar way. They put it on their linebacker (i forget which) and once they got Aaron Curry, they removed the tag and he became a free agent.

Technically we drafted a replacement for Julius, so we could also do the same. We lose nothing but time and probably several free agents who we could have overpaid for (i.e. Landon Johnson.) Luckily, Julius' stubbornness still gives us a say in being able to remove the tag.

how much cap room did the seattle LB take up during FA relative to Peppers? How much cap would the LB take up if he just decides to show up during the practice lead up for week one?

many of you keep dwelling on singular issues to make your points and fail to see the big picture.

Just pick a guy. Anywhere.

Not really my job.

Anybody gets a fair shot in my book prior to royally screwing up three times. Hurney has done it three years in a row with Delhomme..forgiven, we had other needs and Joke makes good commercials for Jerry; let Moose walk knowing how selective and partial Joke is with receivers..unforgiven; let Witherspoon walk after leading the team in tackles and being virtually the only player on defense to look as if he had a pulse that year.. unforgiven; let Draft walk after Dan showed he was a sack of crushed Grade A Jumbos and Draft led the team in tackles.. unforgiven; HE THEN REDEAMED HIMSELF ALMOST FULLY BY STAFFING A GREAT SQUAD FOR LAST YEAR THAT INCLUDED A GOOD MIX OF YOUNG TALENT AND HUNGRY VETS BUT THEN HE tagged Julius Peppers..straw that broke the camel's back.

ship him outta here as far as I'm concerned

The concept is the same. You keep dwelling on the cap space. Apparently that is your "big picture". Not being able to sign Free Agents is the "big picture". We have an entire summer to see Hurney do either of 2 things.

1. fug up incredibly bad.

or the Preferred option.

2. Do something serviceable to the team.

You keep insisting that Hurney has already done Numero Uno and apparently the "damage" is irreversible and can't be undone.. YET we're still here able to contemplate what can still be done. There are still many options, removing the franchise tag being one of them.

Now let's look at the ONLY reason we'd even want cap room...

Since Teams get a certain amount of cap room every year, why wouldn't you try to maximize it's use, amirite? The only reason we'd want cap room is if we wanted to sign some big free agents or a butt load of small ones. We can't really do much of the latter because we ARE returning a lot of people into the next season. So that leaves signing big time free agents.. there's not a lot of quality big free agents out there and especially not at areas of need. The ones are still there will probably remain there for the remainder of the summer until training camp when certain needs become clearer.

So.. what big name free agent did you want?

Seriously CR, let's ship out Hurney, Jake and our coaching staff. I really don't want to suffer through another mediocre 12-4 season.

I like the record fine. Do you think we have a legit shot to repeat it?

If so then I understand your immature sarcasm.

Jake should have been gone. Hurney goes after this season and Fox, I really don't give a poo. he has had two Coordinator scape goats already. By all accounts his papers are all but signed with another failure.

I'm really not worried.

If we didn't let Draft go, we would have never gotten Beason.

Draft isn't exactly a starter in the rest of the league either..

Forgiven

I've Forgiven the Witherspoon thing, I thought it was a bad idea then to let him go and for a while I still thought so. At the time though, Dan was still a beast, he could play.. Then it all went downhill fast for Dan.

Same with Moose. With Colbert's rookie season, there was reason to believe he could step into Moose's shoes and be the #2. Turns out... He wasn't. And considering people's problems with Fox's loyalty, this is an example of how it can also go the other way. When you're not loyal enough. Forgivable

Every team has its ups and downs, sometimes you need something bad to happen in order to lead to something good.

we have been through this. you have no idea what trade could have been worked out with cap space. You don't know what player who may want to come here pipes up because he sees we have cap space.

I wanted Cutler, Haynesworth, and Holt or any of the three. I also wanted to be considered a s a player for everyone else in the way that maybe I raise the price for my in-conference suitors. Basically I don't want to be dead in the water due to a player who admittedly wants out to begin with and keep me from being a player in the case that something comes up.

The fact that nobody really looked like they would fall in our lap from a fans understanding of things does not give a GM any right to take the franchise out of the running.

I did not think you were this naive. I also did not think you were this small-minded. There is a bigger picture of the possibilities than what NFL.com posts on their "notable free agents" list.

please don't respond with anything else as adolescent as your last post

Technically Trgovac wasn't a scapegoat.. since he.. well you know... left of his own volition. Same with much of the coaching staff from last season many of whom got better offers from other teams. Technically the Patriots seem to lose coaching staff year in and year out.. Personally, I believe that's one of their strengths.. No reccuring tendencies year in and year out continues the guessing games for teams and actually forces them to do their homework. "Surprise" Factor.
