Blurb on Amini

I wanted Cox in the 1st just from a needs standpoint, and must admit to a bit of shock when they went guard in the 2nd. That said, I think this definitely has the potential to be our best draft ever. Kuechly looks like a potential all-pro. Silatolu may get a trip to Hawaii even before Luke. Loved the Adams pick, and had wanted the Norman pick since watching him in the Shrine Bowl.

If all these guys pan out, this was an absolute grand slam home run by the front office. My fingers are crossed.

I will give this draft class an A+ for sure. The only complaint I have is the way it played out. Normally you take your DE before your LB. Or the fact that we took a usual late round G in the second. Our third round flier winds up being two potential playmakers... in the fourth round. And what is with this taking your future #2CB, a normal higher pick, in the fifth?

There is no way in hellz they planned it out this way!!!! Or did they?

Normally I would be nervous about 3 rookies starting. But other than Norman, I have not a care. I do have hope for Norman, I just hate having to count on rookie CBs. I know this is not the NFL of my youth. But teams know he is a rookie, and across from an elite CB. He is going to get lots of attention. Good or bad, he is coming to a field near you. I love him for kicking Capt to nickel.

I see your point--good one. Considering where our rookies are starting, take those positions and value them based on need:

CB

G

LB

With the ninth pick, we passed on Stephen Gilmore and Dre Kirkpatrick, SEC CBs. Hmmm. Instead, we drafted a LB. Is this a bad pick? in four years, I doubt anyone in Charlotte thinks so. Maybe not the biggest need on paper, but I am one who values character and work ethic. Looking back, I realized that the Panthers have decided that giving four year deals to risky players who fill immediate needs is bad business. We got the BEST LB in the draft.

Had SIlatolu not been from a Div II school, he probably would have been rated the #1 G in the draft. Curious pick, with players like Cordy Glenn and Jeff Allen on the board, not to mention Devon Still and Jerel Worthy. However, I am starting to see how this guy can be spercial. Isn't it funny how different the strategy is for a new coach than that of one on the hot seat? We drafted players who will anchor a spot for a decade. No quick fixes, but solid football players with toughness.

Norman in the fifth was a gift.

Exactly. My brother-in-law wanted to know why we took a DII Guard. At the time, I did not know what I do now. Normally, a guard like that is lucky do be drafted, let alone in the second.

Norman was just one of those local kid makes good thingys. We wanted him, and he was there when we wanted him. That one worked well too.

The only real need, maybe, that we did not address was DT. But other than that. We hit pay dirt big time. Just funny how it all came together.

I've been really loving Amini so far, and most guys on the twitters absolutely love the guy. We found some damn gold in this draft.

I agree. He was confused a bit in the first game, less in the second. The holding penalty he got vs Miami (I have not watched it on tape and they did not replay it) was incredible. The play was going to the right--Silatolu plays LEFT guard. He was sealing the middle linebacker. Wharton never gets there--I assure you.

I read somewhere last year that we ran 80% of the time to the left, behind wharton, Kalil, and Gross. Good idea, because Bell and Hangman were rather weak. With a Left Guard who can make every pull block in the book, that will change.

I think that is more important than people realize. I have noticed that DWill seems to have better vision to his right. Cutbacks and long runs have been that direction, if my memory serves me. Adding a better blocking back and a nasty pulling LG to our offense made us so much better. Getting pumped.

I thought the same thing, but how many DTs are hard to draft and take time to mature. The first rounders usually take a few years; people like Dorsey, Ellis, etc. are just hitting their stride and they were first rounders.

You do not throw out the stew before it is done because you are afraid it may not taste good. RR knew we had a veteran run stuffer coming off IR and he knew that we had 4 young, developing DTs. Adding a new young, developing DT would not help us much. Even Kris Jenkins did little to impress his rookie season.

And that forces you to have to cut a developing player. I think RR likes Kearse and Kalil made some comments about how good Fua will be. McClain has shown some signs. Neblett has been decent. Who do you cut?

This is probably Edwards' last season. His contract goes way up next year. I imagine we expect FUA to be ready for prime time by then. I also think we will draft a NT or sign one on the cheap.

DTs are hard to draft for some reason. They have a very high bust rate.

Man you nailed it...Hurney must believe in in RR...because with Keeks and Amini, those

positions are set for the next decade, barring injury. Must have been tempting to go after

a flashy player like WR or CB, but we filled 2 positions with home run players. Nice to know that RR is building a real team, not a "we must win this year" team regardless of what it costs.

If Norman can start after being a 5th rounder (he was projected higher, iirc)....man what a draft.
