TE gaines signs with Bears

Bears agreed to terms with TE Michael Gaines, formerly of the Lions.

Gaines, 29, is being looked at as a blocking specialist by Chicago, though Desmond Clark will probably handle most of those duties. Gaines would move into the No. 2 TE role if Clark or Greg Olsen got hurt, but wouldn't see many targets. Gaines had 23 catches for 260 yards last season in Detroit.

they are going to be moving him to FB. he did well as a run blocker in detroit (helped kevin smith break 1000 yards).

He'll be the primary blocking TE and a hybrid blocking FB in certain situations. I like the pick up as both Olsen and Clark are more of the receiving TE than the blocking type

I always liked him. Big body. Not so great mits. he and Cut don't seem like a good fit. Nto with that velocity. Maybe he has learned how to block.

he could prove to be a huge asset if he can get it right with a strong runner in Forte and a new passer with a lot of pressure on him.

Chicago may make some noise. At the very least they are making significant moves and then making some necessary secondary moves to support them.

they also picked up some 6'2 303lb lineman late in the draft that they are considering as a FB/TE/OG.

i'm glad we aren't going to have to face them next year unless it's in the playoffs. i'd rather be playing the vikings.
