Lee

Thats alot of backs on one roster. Who is the odd man out???

Im going to say Hoover.

nope. lee will go to the practice squad. hoover is far too valuable at what he does. fiammetta has a lot to learn and hoover has a lot to teach.

here is an option...they were talking to goodson about playing the slot receiver. panthers don't really have a problem putting people in positions that they didn't play full time in college. might they keep goodson as a WR and keep Lee on the team? most likely goodson is going to be considered a WR/RB anyway and used more for 3rd downs.

only question then is who gets moved off the roster if goodson gets turned into a WR?

Rayzor I believe it will be the other way around if we keep Lee at all. Only because he is "Steve Smith Approved Fast"

I think Goodson is more of an upgraded Goings. Solid all-around player.

this is exactly what i was thinking, i may be mistaken but if i remember right during mini camp goodson was bein lined up at the slot receiver a good bit. if lee has a good training camp i wouldnt be surprised if they were both on the roster. IMO the roster could look something like this..

FB-hoov, tony

RB-williams, stewart, lee

WR-smith, moose, jarrett, goodson, robinson

TE-King, Barnridge(sp)

JMO, but i wouldnt be suprised

if lee didnt make the roster i expect him to play on the practice squad, not sure what the salary is for that but as the 3rd pick for the CFL he would only be making a salary of about 50,000 a year. im sure he could do better on our practice squad

i'm not sure i'm following you but if i read what you wrote correctly, Lee would be put in as a WR?

i can see goodson playing more of a kevin faulk role and getting used a lot more than goings because i think he brings much more to the table than goings did....not so much as a blocker but as a ball carrier. goodson is a big play threat and i see them using him a lot in different capacities. Lee would be just RB depth/STs.

Yes, I actually think he might Push Robinson for the KR/PR/WR spot with the ability to be a running back in an emergency. Something we could have used in 06 NFC Championship game. You know how our staff loves the versatility. But his is going to have to be a Clear Cut winner in the return game to take that spot.

That leave a spot open for Carter, Maybe.

i can agree with that but that bolded part is going to be the tough thing. iirc, neither he nor goodson had much if any experience in the return game in college. that will make it an uphill battle considering the competition that we already have in place with robinson, carter, beavers, and chery.

first year players on the practice squad can make up to but no more than the league minimum ( $285,000 ). They can negotiate salary but that would be the limit. And players are only eligible for two years to be on a practice team. They also cannot have been on another teams 43 active roster for more that 6 games. Each team can only have 8 players signed to a practice squad and can be picked up and signed by any team at any time. So a team can't hide players on the practice squads.

Most get paid $5100 a week for 17 weeks...

The more of these highlights I see if Lee the more I like his extreme athleticism. He has great speed and some quick moves, some real ankle breakers. I know its against almost High School talent but you can compare his speed and quick hitch with anyone on the team. I think it all comes down to whether he can adapt to the speed of the NFL after facing very mediocre talent in college.

It's really not rocket science. If the guy flies like a rocket during the camps, in concert with playing solid football, he will make the team. Young, speedy talent, particularly when taking financial savings into account, may push the old pros out the door. But, young, speedy talent will definitely push young, untested not so speedy talent out the door. It happens in all facets of business, and the NFL is no exception.

I don't buy that he'll have to beat the other rookies by a wide margin. If he makes better impressions, and basically has a better camp, he will make the team. It just makes sense.

I can see the argument both ways when it comes to him having to beat out guys like Goodson. I can see how a FO would be more reluctant to cut a guy they got in the 4th a lot more then a UDFA. But I can also see a guy with a lot better athleticism and speed beating out him too. I think Lee will have to work his tail off in camp but I believe if he does he will be on the final 53.
