Saints* trade for Ruud

ruud was solid in tampa. Saints* signing him makes sense, they need some depth and he'll be a serviceable fill-in.

the fans are unbelievably delusional though, the comments on the NFL.com article about it is flooded with misspelled diatribes about how sweet it will be when the Saints* become the first team to play the superbowl at home and this is just another piece of the master plan... lol

I always liked Ruud. He always seemed to be around the ball (was close or even led the league in tackles on year). Just not a game changing player. I actually compared Kuechly to Ruud when we drafted him (all indications are that I was very wrong on this). I always thought of Ruud as an above average starter just not a superstar. Didn't realize he had fallen off that much.

Here is a quote from Titans SB nation blog.

This is a tough day here at MCM. Site favorite Barrett Ruud has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks. Ruud's arch with the Titans is pretty funny to think back on. We were all pretty excited when the team signed him because he was decent against the run and good in pass coverage. I cannot speak for everyone, but I think it is safe to say that most people thought he was going to be an upgrade over Stephen Tulloch. I know I did.

Just a few short weeks later, the entire fanbase was ready to run him out of town with pitchforks. He couldn't tackle or cover anyone. It also didn't help his cause that Colin McCarthy proved to be a really, really good player when he got to fill in for Ruud.

But we are just jealous, right?

Good pick up. Saints** don't need Pro Bowlers on defense, just guys who can toe the line.

this is about right, i think. ruud is a stopgap, and nothing more, and the Saints* front office knows it even if the fanbase doesn't.

i look forward to tolbert flattening him bi-annually.
