Did we really go 12-4 last season?

If you just wake up from 2 years in comma you'd never knew we won the South. Everyone rank us from 15th to 20th best team in NFL. If you visit Falcons forum, you'd think they're poo don't stink and they act like they just won SB 4 months ago... Saints are in the same boat and everyone believes we'll be the worst team in the South this season... We pretty much under the radar after 12-4 season... I'll take it.

I'm trying to figure this out too. personally I wonder about the Defense but that's it, I still think our offense is good enough to win us 8-9 games by themselves.

And if you add to the fact that our defense most years is in the top 10 particularly in points allowed. Even last year we finished 12th. As long as we can average 26 points a game this year, even if we give up just as many as last year-20 points per game- we should win 9 or 10 games. If we have any improvement on defense at all we should win the division at 10-6 or better.

The falcons have new, talented, young QB and have had a busy and productive offseason. They also bowed out of the playoffs in less pathetic way.

We have a vet QB who doesn't go on talent but his intagibles...and he had the worst game of his life...in the playoffs where we got absolutley destroyed. We haven't signed a single FA and didn't have a first round pick. Then add on our disgruntled franchise player.

I can see why the talking heads will not lean our way.

We'll just have to prove them all wrong again:thumbsup:

*Coma, and I think our offense was that good, but we also had a favorable schedule

We have a good Running game but our Passing is suspect. Also our D was really suspect the whole season. With that said we went toe to toe with the cards the first game and won also knocked off the Chargers,Denver and would have one in New York if it was not for our dreadful D. We played a lot of Playoff team and won so I see no way in saying that we had a cake walk.

Look at it this way, we had new players in every single starting spot on the OLine at the start of '08 compared to the start of '07. Due to injuries, we also had a different lineup on the OLine pretty much every week for the 1st half of the season. The 2nd half of the season, once the OLine was healthy and gelled, our PPG was a whopping 0.875 less than the league leading Saints. Yup, less than 1 point a game difference.

As far as defense, we got rid of one of the worst DCs in the league (Trgo) and a weak link in the secondary (Lucas) We brought in Meeks, a guy that has had top defenses with less talent and his team spending most of their draft picks and cap room on offense. He's also consistently fielded top passing defenses, the area we had the most problems in.

We also had a hell of a draft, very solid from beginning to end and we got great value on some guys in late rounds that should have gone much sooner. Also, FA isn't over yet, and this was a very week FA group this year anyway. Not alot of players there I'd even want us to go after.

So we'll sneak up on'em. And then we'll get from and any of 100 sports analysts "I had the Panthers as my dark horse, I just didn't tell anybody or write it down. But believe me, like I believed the teh Panthers." When will that start happening, mid October?

The media has never kissed Carolina's ass like it does half the other teams in the league. I would personally feel embarrased by being over hyped by the media every season and turning out to be a fluke. Flying under the radar is what Carolina has always done best.

Part of the Reason I don't get the Media when it comes to the Panthers is the fact that North Carolina has 2 of the most popular Colleges in the USA in UNC and Duke, I know not all the people that are fans of them are NFL fans and what not but still there is proof that a huge and mega Die hard fan base can come out of the Carolina's and you would think that ESPN and everyone else may want to try and tap it, which they could if they gave it a little push but I guess not.

    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
