Should we run the ball more this year?

Yes...

My reasoning behind this is all the money we are spending on running backs and fullbacks. A lot of $$ being thrown at them not to run the ball.

This will also open up the passing game the more successful we are running the ball

Rookie Cam Newton broke Mannings record with no offseason.....yet we need to find a way to open up the passing game more?

We had Double Trouble last year....paychecks don't determine how you call games. Williams had more touches in 2007 as Fosters backup than in 2011... and 2011 was year one of his huge new deal.

I just don't see it. Nothing from year 1 of the Chud era seems to backup this rampant run more campaign.

Cam will be better...why take it out of his hands now when the coaches have voiced they wanted a heavy load on him early bc that was what the offense would require.

I think ground and pound is an archaic but realistic approach to our running game. If our Offense is as balanced as we believe it will, our running game will be even more effective. I can see our YPC as a team close to 6ypc.

So yes our ground game will pound you.

But our passing game will kill you if you fall asleep.

Look at it this way. Other teams have their RB that can do RB things. Our RB are weapons. Surround Cam with as many weapons as possible. Cam has a dozen or more years left. Double Trouble does not. Maybe in a coulple of years Cam won't need DT. But why do we have to find out now?

By the time Cam needs to be taken care of, both DWill and Stew will be off the books.

Also. As happy as I am that Cam did not run the other night. I know that is not going to be the trend. His running is a weapon that needs to be used. But it was nice, and it put teams on notice, that we could score without Cam running.

Contracts and my belief we over invested at RB has nothing to do with my opinion on this issue. We ran perfectly last year.....no need to fix what doesn't need fixing.

We can get better passing. I think we will. Cam is going to have a huge load and he should (running and passing).

Teams are starting to build defenses to stop the pass. We are building our offense to be a dangerous run team, with vertical passing ability.

I like it.

We saw more 5k and 4 k passers last year than any time in NFL history. We saw 2 QBs break Marinos record. Cam broke All that in one year....2011.

Teams are not stopping the pass. Passing is getting easier.....Ds are trying to do anything they can to contain it. it ain't working well.

The spread option is the next wave about to hit the NFL. We should lead that charge. I think we will...and we did last year.

we should do whatever the defense is giving us or we are able to take. Not trying to sound like a smartass here but with our offensive weapons we can almost exploit any and every type of weakness each opponent has from week to week. I would love to watch games where we dink and dunk and grind it out on the ground every week myself but if the opponent stacks the box like they have been able to do all of Foxball years then we need to air it out with reckless abandon.

Agreed. An offence shouldn't just look at stats and say 'oh we should do this more'. Just call the plays that match up well against the opposing defence.

YES!!!!!! And im not talking about screens and short passes. I'm talking about our running backs running it straight up their throat.

Are you kidding? I'm very excited to see more screens and short passes implemented into our offense. Back when we had Delhomme it was only deep balls, smash mouth running, and draw play on 3rd down. I'm very excited to see this offense increase in depth and become more diverse. Short passes and screens are very welcome.

Dude, I never said I didn't want to see it.

All I said was I want to see more running than having Cam trying to win it himself. Duh

Exactly.

If teams put 8-9 in the box, we now have the QB and WR/TE's to make teams pay.

If they put 7 in teh box, DLo, Stew/Tolbert/Cam can run them out of the game.

The beauty of the offense that Rivera/Chud have designed is that it can do either at a very high level. We can exploit weaknesses of the opposing defenses.

Should be fun to watch.
