Gettis and Hogan

How does one show a lot in 57 snaps?

9 against Houston

20 vs Tampa

28 vs New Orleans

he showed a lot in the 3 games he played.. what don't you understand? are you confusing 3 games for 16?

trying to use overall defensive statistics is useless.. go back and watch those 3 games, pay attention to Hogan, and get back to me... I think you'll find a good reason to keep him around and say you saw "something" instead of "NOTHING"...

maybe the announcers can help you, they seemed to think Hogan's man coverage skills were nice.. The video evidence will be there to form your own conclusion.

Which game was his best? What did he do that stood out to you? I had exaggerated when saying he did nothing because he did get a small amount of playing time, but to say he did "a lot" as you stated is an even bigger exaggeration.

If he did so well, i'm curious to as why he couldn't beat out out Munnerlyn, Stanford or Butler for playing time.

Not trying to get into a pissing match with you(hard to tell someones tone on a forum), I just want to be enlightened to what I am missing, thats all.

What I dont understand about Hogan is that he played a couple games at the end of last year - but this year he hasnt gotten on the field for any preseason games or hardly to practice for that matter - he seems to be moving backward in his rehab - is there any information on this?

I really can't fathom seeing either of them cut outright.....

jmo........neither will be cut.

Good post & questions. I don't think they will give up on Hogan yet. I think if either, they 'could' on Gettis...IF...he is not going to be able to get on the field before October.

I think they end up carrying 5-6 CBs & 6 WRs. The 6 CBs would be if they have doubts about Hogan, otherwise 5, IMO.

I really hope we get a chance to see them in the next 2 games. Hogan has had a longtime to heal now & Gettis has had a year as well. I can see the training staff holding him out to the 1 year point as a WR, but with Hogan...there must be inflammation that will not resolve for him to be held out this long.

I should have clarified in the op, I don't see it as more than a 5% chance either will get cut, but I'm not sure they will be on the "active" 53 to start either, if they can't get on the field.

I was exaggerating as well.. Everyone says they have seen nothing when he did show something at least. Obviously he needs more time to develop and give everyone some sort of impression on what that ceiling could look like..

In his 1st game, he didn't get picked on and made a very heady play in bump and run to over-power the receiver, push him out of bounds, and left the guy wide open as he went to cover the middle of the field.. The ball was thrown to that guy for a TD, but was called back because he was then an ineligible receiver..

I don't remember much in the Tampa game...

Against NO, there were only 2 passes in his direction (IIRC), and on both he was right on top of the receiver.. The announcers even commented on you can't beat a perfectly thrown ball which both of those were, either the receiver was going to make a play or it was going to be out of bounds... unfortunately both were caught, one being for a TD.. Announcers gave his praise regardless..

I can't blame the coaching staff for trying to ease him back which might explain why he didn't "beat out" either Munny or Butler..

here's what I'm getting at.. he flashed last year. his potential could be of a starter, but instead some fans would rather see him released so when/if that knee heals finally and he's starting somewhere else they can say Hurney is a jackass.. lol

if we are talking about the same thing next year, I get it. But this year, people should learn a little more patience. John Fox patience? fug no.. but just a little..

there were reports a while back that his knee was swelling again.. I've also read he's not expected to start the season on the PUP list.. we'll have to see what happens.
