Give them the props: our DTs looked Good

Edwards looked great and I think he was the missing piece to our defense, besides Beason/Davis of course.

If we can get pressure on the QB like that, it makes our DB's look way better than they actually are.

It is being consistent. I don't jump off the cliff when we look bad in a preseason game and don't go overboard when we look good the next week. Feel free to waffle back and forth on the extreme edges, I just prefer to maintain in the middle.

Dude. That was my best Cagnie picking on the naysayers. Let the kids enjoy a quarter of quality play, one quarter of doing rather ok, and a half of teh jimmyz.

Next week we get 3/4 with the ones and selected twos. This is the game that may divide the huddle. If we poo we are doomed, if we play well watch out NFL.

Me, I have been a fan too long to get too excited over one game. Preseason or not. But it was refreshing to see our ones outplay someone elses ones.

One thing I am wondering? What sort of mish mash mix it up what is that guy doing there type game is this going to be? Will Rivera be playing with his pieces looking to see how his guys respond to the uncertainty? Or play it safe, work on his rotations, and get plenty of tape to evalute?

I know they don't like to show anything. But if you don't practice it, how well can you actually run it effectively? Or am I just trying to convince myself something funky will happen?

OK, that's it. GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!

From now until the start of the season, their practices are all closed with tarps up. So they have plenty of time for evil Dr. Chud to drill his pupils in the finer arts of subterfuge.

It was good to see the guys and particularly the defense play better this week. As for what we are going to see when we start the season, I am not sure. We didn't blitz much on Friday night and I wasn't sure if that was because we were getting enough pressure with a 4 man rush that they didn't think they needed to dial up more, they don't plan to blitz or as you say,are showing nothing. I hope it was the former not the latter. That defense didn't look like a typical Jim Johnson defense so are we committed to having one like that or or current one going to be something else. I hope we get more answers in this next game.

It is more curiosity than anything. I just have this feeling Rivera has had this idea of what he wants out of his D for a long time. He is finally in a position to bring that to fruition. I know he will not throw out exotic looks just to be cool. But I am antsy to see what he has up his sleeve.

I agree

Also, I hate watching us play that cover 3 look, were our corners play about 8 yards off the WRs. That would be my only complaint about fridays fefense.

I was trying to articulate a feeling I have. And not doing a very good job.

I mean, whose rule is it anyway? Who says you cannot practice some of your more unique plays during preseason? You know that screw what the O is doing, I'm going with 2DE, 5LB, 3S, and Gamble on your best WR. You cannot evaluate what you cannot see. Run it for a play or three. Get a feel for how it works in different settings. Then trot out some other play, or scheme you want to practice but can't run full speed at home.

If you run enough of these plays teams will waste time on one wrong ones. I guess I am just making up scenarios to appease my imagination. Cuz Rivera won't answer any of my emails.

Points is. We all have a D we think could work with the proper players and coaching. Well Rivera is in the unique position of being able to use his imagination and experience and design his very own D. Just like Chud is doing with the O.

Has me curious as a ... curious thing. Just another reason to be giddy.

My bad. I was thinking O while you were talking D.

On defense we probably won't be terribly creative until we see what's up with Beason and CB #2. Maybe minor tweaks early in the season, with new wrinkles added later in the year. We still have a lot of work to do on fundamentals.

I know I am hoping against hope for something exotic outta Rivera. After all this is the NFL. If you can come up with something new you are kidding yourself. It has been thought of, just discarded as too revolutionary. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Rivera is going to revolutionize the D, like Chud and Cam are doing with the O. Why Not?
