Predictions: Defense

So, how does the restructured defense (player-wise and coaching-wise, not necessarily execution-wise) stack up against the high powered offenses this season? Break it down game by game.

Eh, I don't feel like going through it game by game, but I will say based on PPG (the most important stat) we'll be in the 6-10 range overall for the year.

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT Meeks will let our DB's line up 8 yards off on a 3rd and 5

I agree, we will definitely have a top 5 defense this year, all year consistently. :hurray: And ESPN and their ilk will be like "Where the hell did the Carolina Panthers come from?"

The Tamp 2 is supposed to be good against short routes and yards after the catch, so we should fair pretty well against New England - thats their entire offense. I'm not sure what kind of offenses they run in the east - I think at least Cowboys and Skins run a version of the West Coast, so we should do alright against them too.

It is hard to say on a game by game basis how we will do. I suspect we will start off the season learning and perhaps even struggling particularly given the teams we open with. As we go through the year however we will get better particularly on pass defense. While that means that teams will try and run on us more, that should play into our strengths. We should hit our stride in the playoffs which is exactly when we have to be good. As an overall ranking I suspect we will be around 15th in yards and 10th in points surrendered.

This won't be a bad thing given we will be in the top 5 in offensive scoring. If we can keep teams below 24 points we can play with anyone.

I think the our offense will be good enough to keep the opponents on their toes, but more on that later (still a lot of offseason left). However, I'm giddy about the potential of the defense.
