defenses are going to adjust to it. it's only a matter of time. offenses will have to be more balanced....and that doesn't just mean having a super stud QB that can run the ball like newton along with "JAG" RBs.

Actually the increase in passing yards since 1987 has been going upward fairly linearly. This league isn't ever going back to the way it was.

People can say this is a passing league, but last time I check, passing teams like GB just signed Cedric Benson, NYG used a first rd pick on David Wilson, and the Chargers have said they want Matthews to take a bigger load this season.

Nobody is saying we want to get rid of stew or dwill, or tolbert, the question is the cost involved. Is the dollar amount going to cost the panthers on defense, or in getting better receivers.

Love the Players, but in lieu of NFL passing rules which slant heavily in the way of receivers and quarterbacks, seems like we could accomplish the same thing with Stewart, Poole, and Tolbert, for a much lower cost.

What part do the posters who think that paying for the running game will keep us from getting other players miss about our philosophy for the past few years??? We are not going to spend big on free agents no matter whether we have a running game or not. We are going to spend our money on our own players and supplement with lower priced free agents or trade for guys we want that won't cost us an arm or leg.

News Alert!!! The only receivers we are going to get are ones we draft or guys like Murphy who we traded for a low round pick or on the cheap. The only ones we are going to pay big are guys like LaFell (when his rookie contract runs out) if he has a breakout year.

We are not going to bring a high priced CB or DE no matter how much money we have. We have not done it since Lucas and aren't going to do it now. If it takes us 2 or 3 years to fill all the holes on the team with draft picks then that is what we will do. In the meantime we will bring in stop gap players and trade for inexpensive ones.

If you don't like the philosophy, find another team because it isn't going to change.

Most players don't play out their entire contracts and on top of that, these are two of the best backs in the league in making plays... Stew is the better receiver out of the backfield, but either can turn a short pass into a touchdown, so it isn't just about the run.

True, RB is being devalued because so many teams find guys like Arian Foster either late in the draft or as UDFAs and they perform just as well as 1st rounders, but our guys aren't just running backs... They're playmakers and help the offense achieve what we're looking to achieve in its entirety.

"Our philosophy the past few years" hasn't been working out. Referencing bringing in players like Lucas hearkens back to a time when the Panthers were a formidable team. When we brought in Lucas we had one of the best pass defenses in the league, 13 total interceptions between him and Gamble, and the Panthers made it deep into the playoffs despite having no RB depth at a certain point, and if you pinpoint that as the sole reason we lost against Seattle you'd be wrong.

I don't see a problem in accumulating as many weapons as possible on offense as long as they can contribute consistently.

the cost of building a team, and keeping a team loaded with talent, is fluid constant.

Meaning, ya have to pay to keep your core players, while building through the draft.

Right now.it means we're paying our running backs. In a few more years, the.money will be else where. The money invested in our running backs isn't preventing the team from adding other veteran free agents, if that's what they wanted to do.

People need to realize this is just this current phase of the roster.
