Btw, I'm really starting to think Mcderm's defense is pure poo as far as scheme. LB's gonna generate pass-rush without a disruptive DT? REALLY?

Funny to listen to Internet guys who think they know more than professional ciaches who have done this for a career and are paid handsomely for their knowledge.

We all think we are experts at analyzing the game of football and all we really are....over sensitive fans. And that ibcludes myself.

Hey Hurney, CB and DT were our 2 biggest weaknesses last season. What are you going to do about it this offseason?..

Hurney: "Absolutely nothing. We are fine there."

Thanks d**kweed.

When you don't address your weaknesses, they don't magically get better the next season.

Hate hurney all you want but id take a once in a generation linebacker in kuechly as well as potentially shoring up the LG position long term as well in the first two rounds and save pass rush and CB/DT for next year over just patching up the problems with question marks like coples and Irvin this year all day every day honestly... I think hurney knows about the pass rush problems more than anybody based on his recent comments and we'll probably go all out in the draft for pass rush next year, but if we ignore it again then yes, we should call for hurney's head, but I doubt he will. just my two cents IMO

I'm not sure if people realize this but Tolbert was opened when Cam threw a perfect pass to him that he tried to catch with one hand and dropped. If Tolbert didn't drop the pass he would've gotten the first, and more.

Why throw to your check down when your first read was opened? Yeah two guys followed Tolbert but he was still wide opened.

No different than Godfrey and Luke following Daniels, with him still being wide ass opened.

I heard this before. Seems close to something I've been hearing the past 5 years.

We are like the wife who can't leave her abusive husband.

Jimmy! I swear, the next time you beat me, I will leave you!! Next time is the time, I'm serious!

I would've agreed with you when we had John fox and our QB by committee system but this is only our second year seoerated from 2-14 so I mean people need to give this whole system a chance that's all... Only person I am not happy with as if now is McDermott honestly but it's only one game of preseason so it's still up in the air with him.. But ppl need to calm down and stop calling for everyone's head Just look at Ryan leaf's first preseason game stats and youll see how meaningless this all is.

I've knew Campbell would be a great pickup especially if he got some actual coaching... I really hope he supplants Bell as the starter, I'd feel a lot more comfortable.

As far as Cam, I'm not worried at all. I don't think he was going through his reads purposely for whatever reason. In the case of Tolbert, and being that it's preseason, he may have been trying to get him a touch to give him a chance to show out. It's preseason, it doesn't matter.

And the defense... We'll see. I really think we'll be fine with Edwards and Kearse in there at DT, but Hardy HAS to show out this year in the pass rush...

Attempting to draw conclusions about defensive schemes after one preseason game seems to be a bit hasty doesn't it? We won't know until after 3-4 healthy, regular-season games with this defense just how McDermott's defense will really pan out.

Agree with nearly everything in the article. Especially the idea that McDermott might not be getting the job done. These are NFL players and he has had a good long time to get this pass rush up and running and I didn't see much of anything vs. Texans. Thinking about blitzing...wasn't Shaub's INT forced by a corner blitz from Munnerlyn and good pass rush from CJ? That's the way it looked in replay. So...was that the only blitz we ran? I don't remember. If so..it may be part of a blitz package that could be successful. I don't think we have the DL or DBs to commit entirely to an aggressive scheme. And when the offense doesn't put points on the board, we lose def. momentum in a hurry. Will the players and coaches look at the film and make adjustments or will they assume things will turn around? We gotta be better than this.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
