On Cam's pass to Tolbert, shld have thrown it to DWill on dump. Both LBs followed MT on his route. Poor 2nd lvl cut block by MT on prior run

Neblett, susp 4 gms, slow off the line and couldnt get over cut block. Easily lane for Arian to hit on his fumbled run. McClain other option

Silatolu improved as the game went along. Good to see. Still not entirely smooth when passing off/picking up lateral blocks.

Positive side: Bruce Campbell in pass pro, pad level still too high in run game. Negative: Silatolu takes one step forward, two steps back.

For being a blocking specialist (& seeing time there w/1st tm), Ben Hartsock wasn't impressive in that area. Was crucial blk & didnt sustain

"Just enough" isn't a total negative for Byron Bell, but I am always uneasy watching him. Seems like he's so very close to losing his block.

If I had to guess, I'd think Eric Norwood gets cut form this Panthers team.

I really hope Rivera/Chud don't pull the same excuse for Tutu being ahead of Murphy as Naanee's "he knows the offense" reason for starting.

It's odd, Alexander uses his length well vs the run, but then creates no separation when pass rushing. Its your best weapon, use it.

Don't let Applewhite's lack of consistent reps with 2nd team defense confuse you. I think he is firmly the Panthers' bench pass rusher.

I know its hard to believe, but Bruce Campbell was really impressive. Only positive things from camp. Footwork and reaction were much better

No doubt the Panthers hid some wrinkles they plan on incorporating, but I have no idea how they will generate a consistent pass rush. cont.

Johnson does his thing, but honestly, thats it. He is the only reliable force. 3DT is a major issue, didn't see improvement from McClain.

Kuechly definitely helps in coverage, esp underneath zones, but no one can blitz effectively from that LB corp. McDermott has work to do.

Until they actually show improvement, it might not be wise to keep repeating that the Panthers defense "is going to be much improved"

He is pretty much spot on with all of it.

Also of note was Cam looked to throw to his first option all night and stared down his WR's worse than Delhomme with a lead.

You think that may be due to coaches instruction, ie each play throw to your first option so we can see what that player has in the tank?

Spot on about everything except no LBs can pass rush. We weren't blitzing......and non have been asked to do it before in a serious compacity. It is an unknown. They have the talent

I would like Campbell to get some RT reps and split them with Bell with the starting unit.

I find it very odd that we've honestly been lacking an above-average (I don't even mean Pro Bowl caliber) DT, #2 CB, #2 DE for a long, long time. It's seemingly never addressed.

It almost is starting to seem like more of a scouting/personnel department issue than a talent-on-the-field issue.
