Jonathan Stewart Signs Five Year (36.5 Million) Contract Extension

Recommended Posts

I didn't know you ever worked in a front office and were qualified to judge what is a good deal or not. Do you honestly think that Richardson who is a billionaire would keep Hurney around for years if hee felt he was wasting his money and doing a crappy job? JR could hire a bunch of GMs and yet he stays with Hurney likely on the advice of his experts and his own opinion. You think he got as far as he did keeping incompetent people???

Ah, the old " you aren't a GM so you can't be critical of a GM defense".....

Jerry's franchise is one of the most succesful in all of professional sports. I think he cares about that.....a lot. Being a good business man or former player doesn't mean you build a team flawlessly. Plus there is some old school mentality in paying guys for what they have DONE especially in a Panther uniform.

I guess since I was not a former NBA great, have ownership in a NBA franchise, and haven't GM'd a NBA team I can't point out what a crap job Jordan is doing with the Bobcats either, huh?

First of all people act like we have been paying a ton for running backs for 2009 and 2010 when our team was poor and that we neglected other positions and that just isn't true. We paid Wiliams at the end of 2010 so the 2009 and 2010 seasons have nothing to do with overpaying for running backs. The only season that remotely could be considered is 2011 and even then we didn't pay more than 10 million for double trouble which is not much more than some teams paid for one back. And really from a salary cap point of view we are spending 12 million on Williams, Stewart and Tolbert combined in 2012. It isn't until 2013 that we are even paying a premium for our running backs so the whole it has kept our team back is ridiculous. If you are talking actually salaries it is even less.

The three of them cost less than 10% of our cap. In fact in 2012, the cost of Charles Johnson alone which is 11,000,000 is about the same as all three combined. For that matter Jordan Gross cost us 11,500,000 this season. Each of them cost us almost 10% of the cap themselves.

Your whole premise is flawed with poor logic. First of all Wiliams never showed much at all up until 2008 so drafting Stewart wasn't a waste at all. Many people would suggest that drafting Stewart was just the fire Williams needed under his butt to start producing. Secondly, until 2013 we aren't paying 2 running backs featured money and there is significant thought that WIlliams will never see the last 2 years of his contract. None of his money is guaranteed after 2012 and his cap hit if done as a June 1 cut won't be bad after 2013. So we might end up paying big bucks to the both of them for 1 year.

But this whole paying 90 millions for 2 backs is surely not going to happen unless they both produce at a very high level. So please give it a rest and let it play out. This year all of our backs are making the same as Adrian Peterson is making by himself. Lets see what happens next year before bitching for another year like you did with Williams about how that would stop up signing Stewart. You were the main one I was talking about with your constant bitching and your still at it. You have been wrong all along but that hardly deters you. Why not stop now while you are behind.

This post = kicking ass

Sure you can say whatever you want, but it doesn't mean you are informed. Anybody can have an opinion but to expect others to agree usually requires some kind of credentials. What are yours??

As for me, I claim no expertise in the matter. That is why I defer to someone who has the credentials like Rivera.

So if Micheal Jordan told you that the Bobcats were a finely run team, you would be a good little sheep?

I actually would keep my mouth shut until I see how his strategy plays out. Meanwhile I would decide if I want to be a fan or not by voting one way or the other with my money buying tickets and going to games. What I wouldn't do is go on to the Bobcat forum here or elsewhere and bitch about everything and everyone every chance I got.

But that is just me.......................................

I thought you would just defer. His stategy played out...poorly. You enjoy watching the games even though they lose.

Yeah okay, and it plays itself out....you then can comment despite not being a NBA GM?

Lion fans couldn't comment on Millen until he was fired? Raider fans couldn't comment on Al Davis' later years until he died?

That is just silly....You pretty consistently tow the line of anything Carolina does is correct and no one has the right to question a front office move or coaching decision. There is no way to apply that logic in the real world.

It is just selective bitching about certain aspects of things. You are the guy who said if Fox says Jake gives us the best chance to win everyone is a fool for doubting the man.

His strategy involved building through the draft and developing his young guys. You won't know how it plays out for a year or two at the earliest. And no one enjoys losing but sometimes that is what happens while you are building. Do I like what he did dumping all the vets?? Of course not. But I wouldn't be ignorant enough to assume I know more than him or have any idea how to do it better.

That is kitchen sinking, throwing anything and everything against the wall hoping something sticks. This is not about Detroit or the Raiders nor are our situations remotely similar. And again you have every right to say what you want and criticize anyone and anybody. How many times do I have to say it???

I don't always agree with Hurney I just don't think I need to bitch about it all the time. Do I wish we had Peppers on one side and Allen on the other? Who wouldn't?? Do I wish we had Revis on the other side of Gamble?? Of course......

But I have decided that I am going to see what happens with who we have and trust the coaches to develop our guys. Thats just me, though, feel free to bitch.

for the record, P55 was one of the main voices speaking out against all fans who tried to back JR's decision to handle 2010 as we all witnessed.. and yes, I thought there was potential with Matt Moore, our run game and a defense that held itself together long enough to be competitive...

No it isn't. Those are examples of other GMs....they just weren't the GM of your team. Either a fan can or can't be critical of a GM. Team should have no impact. You were the one just lecturing you needed to have NFL front office experience to dare question what a team is doing....

This is a message board for fans of a professional sports team. This is the IDEAL place for people to pointlessly bitch about something they have no control over.

I see these situations as totally different with different issues and motives. As you noted I was totally against the panthers dumping all the veterans and going on the cheap in 2010. I felt that it would hurt the leadership of the team and be a disaster. My complaint against Richardson was that it wasn't necessary and done totally to dump salary and save money in the short term. It was done for an extended lockout which never happened so it decimated the team for no reason. And caused up to pay 10s of millions more in 2011 to entice players to stay after a 2-14 disaster. That is so different from the philosophy of building long term through the draft and actually against Richardson's philosophy up until then. So it wasn't bitching about our general philosophy or moves over the past several years but a specific complaint about how we handled that year which hindsight proves I was totally right about. Note that I am still not on board with the FO on all their decisions I don't bitch constantly either.

The difference between what the Panthers did versus the Bobcats in dumping salary was that the Panthers have never been hurting for money and Saturday night marked the 94th sellout in a row. Jordan is struggling to keep things afloat and is in financial trouble from what I can tell. So that is why I wouldn't assume to know how to fix it or do it better And don't see my bitching about 2010 with the Panthers as analogous with people who bitch about the Bobcats. But that is me..................

I didn't say you don't have a right to criticize the team or the GM. I just said you were uniformed and didn't have a clue what you are talking about. I don't see how you can't see they are different. Of course a message board is the perfect place to bitch. It still doesn't mean it is justified or warranted. You seem to confuse having the ability to do something with the concept of being justified or correct in your analysis.
