Timid my ass. He accelerated like he got shot out of a cannonball as soon as he touched the ball. It was Foster who was timid. I will say Williams skill set changed a little from 06-07 to 08. But he didn't just suddenly into a good back. And I know you don't believe in RB's getting old and washed up, but it happened to Foster.

He didn't show maximum effort as he admitted in the off-season and often tried to run outside instead of going between the tackles. i don't buy the whole not drafting stewart if they knew what williams was capable of.

carolina has experimented with having a split backfield with davis/foster and foster/williams.

neither combination was really successful because davis was on the tail end of his career, and foster couldn't adapt to the role of playing the power back.

in came stewart, the rest is history.

I'm wouldn't doubt that they would used a split backfield regardless of their opinion on Williams. But I do doubt that it would've come in the form of a first round pick. Had they know Wiliams was a capable 1500 back, I think at most they would've drafted a back in the 2nd round.

Remember because they drafted Stewart, they had to trade a bit for Otah. I just don't see them trading those picks and using a first round pick RB just because they wanted a split backfield. That could've been accomplished with a lot less.

IMO the more logical a simpler explanation is they just didn't know what they had in Wiliiams.

What I saw in 2007 was Williams being too timid and often getting hit behind the line taking everything outside and being afraid to run between the tackles. He had potential but to say that he was great and didn't justify drafting Stewart is going way overboard. Vinny criticized him for taking himself out of the game and not wanting the ball on every play. I guess you and CRA are so into revisionistic history you just forgot the reality of what happened.

No one liked the fact that Foster fumbled too much but it was because he was always trying to do too much which was not the case with Williams.

Timid RBs getting stopped behind the line don't generally average 5 yards.

he has averaged more negative yards per carry the last 2 seasons vs 2007.

Never been about the players with me. I love Stewart and said Carolina should let Williams walk. They signed Williams so then IMO Stewart should of walked or been traded.

And yes, I was done with John Fox when he refused to give DeAngelo the reps he deserved in 2007. His favoritism cost him ever since that season in Carolina. Painting me as a Williams hater just makes it easy on the let's pay the RBs a ton of money to watch Cam do his thing crowd. Never been true.

Acknowledging Williams is aging and a younger stud was one our roster was never Williams hate.....but I don't expect you to get that this far into it.

This year after every running play at practice, Williams runs all the way to the end zone, no matter where on the field the play started from. Williams acknowledged he worked harder in the offseason and is in better condition. He's stronger, too, which has made him harder to tackle.

In fairness, that isnt Williams saying he wasn't giving max effort....just willing to take advice on how to get better and change his routine.

Coach/Player speak. Vinny might have taught him some things/took him under his wing, but I don't believe for a second D-Will wasn't giving it what he had. I've had people help me out on job,and it was helpful, but I was still giving 100%. I would have said similar things.

I said D-Will was a different runner in 08. Lot more power, little less burst. But he was still was better than Foster in 07, and he sure wasn't timid. And he didn't get his yards because Foster wore out the defense. That is the only time I've ever heard yards contributed to player like that before.
