Banks of SI...Panthers wont make playoffs

Banks is just mirroring what is said on here on a daily basis and he gets trashed for it. But I guess the old adage that only family can say bad things about family, others can't holds true...

I've only ever heard troll's say that on a daily basis...

Banks really had no clear rationale for his picks but trends and his own opinion. He mentioned that Tampa was 9-3 when we played them but forgot to mention we were 9-3 as well and the only difference was that they had already beaten us so they had the tie breaker. He mentions that no team has repeated as division winner without noting for example that we broke the last to first jinx last year and could break the no repeat division winner as well. Yes we have not been a model of consistency but we have only has 1 losing season in the past 4 and that was 7-9. Not exactly poor either.

I think what I react to is the deal that the Saints will be better this year and we won't with no evidence or proof just speculation based on trends which really hold little water. For example did he note we swept the saints last year. Did he note that the Saints are even a bigger model of inconsistency?

Pretty useless article with little more than speculation to back it up.

Actually the Saints have been the most consistent team over the past 30 years. Not at winning mind you, but still consistent nonetheless.

Trying to determine next years records solely off of history is like going up to a roulette table and thinking you can determine the next number or color by what has already happened.....each spin is independent of the next. People who can look at things objectively should be able to look at the NFL the same way.

So, because we have never had back to back winning seasons in our history, that means that there is no chance for us this season?? Come on....

Well... Banks kinda does have the odds in his favor here folks...

Why get upset so much over it? It's just a prediction article, and honestly, it's not like he really said anything bad here. He stated that the only reason he can see us not making it was due to the history of both us and the NFCS.

It's not like he said he thinks we won't make it cause we have a shitty DLine, missing that 2nd and 3rd WR, missing out on our yearly 1st round TE draft pick, or that we failed to pick up a young gun QB this year. We've heard all of those and more from the pundits over the years. At least this time, he's only going by trending, which to me, has absolutely no merit in deciding how we'll fare this year. It's not like Banks has precognition or anything, so why worry about it all?

File it under the "Yeah, so?" column and move on. :)

For me it is exactly as you say. If he had talked about our weaknesses, our schedule or a number of things I could certainly say that he has a valid point of view and is entitled to it. But to made a prediction based on historical trends with little other evidence sounds a lot to me like a fortune teller. And I don't put alot of credence in them either.

Here's how it works:

We have the outsider view:

Panthers lost big to Zona, Jake had his worst game as a pro, they have never had back to back winning seasons and the schedule is brutal. Thus, they will suck.

We have the sensible view:

We have a good running game, a good O, a serviceable D, and Jake will want to rebound. 9-7

And we have the homer view:

Our division is overrated, we were the only team to go 4-2 in div, we have a super bowl team, and Jake is the best QB ever. 13-3, Super bowl champ.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone say that but I get your point :D

Honestly, I don't care how our schedule looks. We only have to do better than the teams in our division. There's no reason to think we can't do better than any of them.

Fox and company should post Banks bullsh*t article in the locker room, for motivation this year.

I don't think they will need any motivation, other than watching the last Arizona game. If they watch that every week, we will kick ass this year!
