Anyone worried about the DTs?

Sorry emo, you are only half right. I do not remember you providing any facts backing up WHY Edwards cannot be effective this year. Age, though technically a fact, is not a definitive answer. Edwards should be as fresh as almost any time in his Pro career. That may be enough to keep him healthy and effective. Why Not?

Just because our young D looked sad last year, does not guarantee they will play the same way this year. Our young guys are playing and gaining precious experience. Also you cannot dismiss what a full offseason can do for kids.

Rivera is preaching playing with your eyes. The guys seem to be picking up on this, as they are picking off passes with remarkable frequency. This is the one aspect that I am most excited for. TURNOVERS are a teams best friend.

Slightly improved D, and we are competitive. Vastly imrpoved D, and we are going scare the beegees outta everyone.

Kind of hard to find examples of 35 year old DT who didn't play well, because teams try there hardest not to resort to poopy situations like that.

Edwards is 33 and that is not too old.

Who else is around his age and still playing at a high level at DT. Richard Seymour will be 33 in October and went to the probowl in 2010 and 2011.

Casey Hampton is 34 and started 12 games for Pittsburgh last year and has been solid for the last several years.

Kelly Gregg is 34 and started 14 games and had 39 tackles for KC in 2011 along with 1 sack at NT.

Kevin Williams for the Vikings will be 32 next week and also is playing at a high level.

And the list goes on. Just like the old running backs are washed up at 30 BS. I just don't subscribe to that tired old logic.

Need more?????

That is my point, Edwards has been solid a decade....he is getting old and has seen little work recently.

As for Hardy, Rivera called him heavy last year and Hardy (without the coaches suggesting it) opted to put on more weight. So from what we are told that seems to contradict some logic....wanting to see the impact of that weight and if it helps him improve overall seems like a legit question.

I would call his position a question mark. Lots of question marks....and I dont see that as pessimistic.

Richard Seymour has been solid for over a decade and went to the probowl as a NT in 2010 and 2011. Your point??

And where did Rivera say Hardy was heavy? Now you are making up crap....... Hardy was very athletic but struggled to hold the edge so he went out and bulked up adding 15 lbs of muscle and dropping his body fat to 13%. And this is a problem???

Funny how pessimistic people always think that they are the realists and folks that are optimistic are blind homers.

It is way too early to make assumptions about the DL based on lack of tweets.

I am not expecting domination but I am expecting significant improvement from McClain and Fua with Edwards being a space eater holding the point. Kearse was promising and the staff seems to rave about him so until I see three awful games in preseason I will reserve my judgement.

This Thread is so June-ish.

It has been well documented that Hardy may have gained weight, but he looks good, and is practicing very well. Even Rivera has changed his tune on that issue, by saying Hardy has flashed.

Edwards was signed as a stop gap. 2 year deal would have made most of the kids third year players at contracts end. So, basically, though I seeme to remember an option year, this could be Edwards last year. He looks outstanding. No reason to believe he cannot help us emensely.

The Pantherz know Edwards is close to the end, Edwards probably knows he is close to the end. Hellz, even I know he is close to the end. That does not however, put the nail in the coffin of his career.

He is solid at what we want out of him.

I don't want to be viewed as a non-homer, so let me explain. I think the Panthers will be great! I think having the LB's playing solid will be great and we make the playoffs. I think our weakness is at the DT position. I love what were doing at DE, and even believe things will shake out well for our CB's.

No one here can convince me that the DT's are shaping up like the front office wanted. We need more talent at that position.

You were making decent points until the RB point. Yeah, that doesn't happen 90% of time. The human body is just made to withstand that kind of punishment.

But yeah I do need more Seymour, Hampton, and Williams started so good that their dropoff, and yeah they have dropped off, can still be serviceable. Gregg meh sure you can have one, but give more please.

You would want more out of Ron Edwards at his peak forget the dropoff, but I may actually be wrong on this, but I do not think we are getting Ron Edwards at his peak haha.
