It's looking more and more likely that Captain Munnerlyn will start again this season

Captain has never been good, he was 66th ranked CB last year. Gamble on the other hand has shown elite cover skills before. You can't compare the two.

Again, I wasn't comparing the 2 as players....just pointing out how silly it is to focus on 1 yr and ignore the rest. Gamble was used to represent the basic logic I was applying.....A more extreme example bc of how good Gamble has been but same basic logic applied.

And if you are using that 66th rated stat.....I would again ask why everyone is talking about Captain and not Godfrey. Where was he rated....

The 2nd Atl game was the final straw for me in regards to Captain. Atl started out going to White who Captain was oringinally on until we moved Gamble on White, and then Atl proceeded to go to Jones who Captain was on. It became extremely obvious that Matt Ryan and the Falcons was going at Captain.

I even remember us putting Captain at the Nickel position on Goal-line and Atl ran a fade route to their slot guy with Captain on him, for a TD. It's not often teams run fade routes out of the slot, but Atl did it to take advantage of the match up.

I also remember Atl converting a key 3rd down in that game against Captain who was poorly beat, and it's not like he's getting beat by double moves, he's just getting straight up beat.

Oh, and I was a fan of Captain until the Giants game in 2010

EXACTLY!!! I pointed this out a long time ago. ATL went after him both times we played them last year. They were always checking where he was on the field. Brees and the Saints* did the same thing.

Yeah, bc with no pas rush, no LBs that can cover, and no Ss that can aid CBs....in a scheme just installed that was tweaked every week making it softer and more basic.......this is a surprise? lots of CBs would have been abused in those circumstances. Captain was a young corner essentially hung out to dry.....and good teams recognized that.

Now I am not saying I want him as my starting #2 CB as he isn't an ideal candidate...but he most likely is more ready now than Norman or Hogan. They are getting the backup QB bump by fans of being likely better options than they currently really are. Captain belongs on this team right now.

Am I suppose to pick out the criminal from the lineup? I couldn't tell you any of their names. Are these other panther dbs?

You need to watch moar football! Julio Jones, Hakeem Nicks, Mike Williams, and Devery Henderson in order left-to-right. All WRs that Captain will face in the 1st 4 weeks

Also, let's not overrate Captain...he's good for what he is. Decent 4th CB/Special Teamer. Nickle CB at best. Hard Worker and Scrappy, but just too limited as a starting CB... And it's not like Captain is excelling in camp... He's basically the 2nd CB only because of lack of competition.

Captain is a good DB.

Does he have the prefered size? no.

It does amaze me how so many feel he isn't a good DB, yet he's better than the other options, even though he is should. he has the ability.

he does play well. he's an aggressive player, and that get exploited when there isn't a good, consistent pass rush.

I'd also consider Captain a better defensive back than both starters on the 03 superbowl team.

i don't care how good your secondary is, without a pass rush, even the best get abused.

Yea, it's really amazing a lot of people think he isn't a good cornerback. I mean he was only one of the worst corners statistically by both footballoutsiders and profootballfocus in 2011. Also, Gamble had to deal with the same shitty pass rush and shut down his assignment well enough to be one of the top performing CBs last year.

Well one year is basically like 1/2 of Munnerlyn's entire body of work as a starter. It's not like we're isolating 2011 out of a 14 year career here.

Godfrey was rated worse than Martin per PFF.....

With no pass rush and no coverage....why would teams look to push things and gamble throwing at Gamble? Throwing at Capt was smart....but his supporting cast aided in him being an easy target. He isn't great.... But better than the garbage some suggest
