It's looking more and more likely that Captain Munnerlyn will start again this season

I figured last season by Gamble would make the naysayers realize how good of a player Gamble has been for the majority of his career, but i guess it didnt. You really think a guy that supposedly "sucked" so bad the year before last would you just up and have the best season for his position statistically even better than the established best CBs in the NFL???.........Yeah right.

Can't really understand

If Norman wouldn't have gotten injured for those few days and if Hogan wasn't a puss, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I would much rather see Butler as the starter and keep Cap in the nickel if Norman isn't the starter.

I love Cap, but he should be a nickel and ST guy, NOT the starter.

As Zod said though, if we can get some pressure up front it would make a world of difference on the back end. I cite it as an example all of the time, but again, we went to the Super Bowl with Reggie Howard and Terry Cousins as our starting corners and a far less explosive offense.

I dnt believe in the saying that a secondary is better when there's good pressure up front.

I believe the other way around. A good secondary creates good pressures up front.

Both our young CBs have been hurt so its not a big surprise. How many want to bet by the end of the year though Capt want be holding down the #2 spot. Lets just give the rookies some time to heal and learn. Norman was doing very well before his hammy started hurting.

Rivera has basically called Norman and Hogan out by name this preseason, so I don't know why people would expect him to suddenly take a liking to them IF they can get back healthy and IF they get enough reps that's required of someone to get into a regular season game to the point where he would sit a starter he's at least familiar with in Captain.

Captain is a good DB.

Does he have the prefered size? no.

It does amaze me how so many feel he isn't a good DB, yet he's better than the other options, even though he is should. he has the ability.

he does play well. he's an aggressive player, and that get exploited when there isn't a good, consistent pass rush.

I'd also consider Captain a better defensive back than both starters on the 03 superbowl team.

i don't care how good your secondary is, without a pass rush, even the best get abused.

The 2nd Atl game was the final straw for me in regards to Captain. Atl started out going to White who Captain was oringinally on until we moved Gamble on White, and then Atl proceeded to go to Jones who Captain was on. It became extremely obvious that Matt Ryan and the Falcons was going at Captain.

I even remember us putting Captain at the Nickel position on Goal-line and Atl ran a fade route to their slot guy with Captain on him, for a TD. It's not often teams run fade routes out of the slot, but Atl did it to take advantage of the match up.

I also remember Atl converting a key 3rd down in that game against Captain who was poorly beat, and it's not like he's getting beat by double moves, he's just getting straight up beat.

Oh, and I was a fan of Captain until the Giants game in 2010

These Beers are givin me a feelin that our Defense will work very well together as a unit. It will not be individualistic it will pull everyones strengths together to make a real good Defense. Captain might do things very well that we may not be aware of that works well for our scheme. Yes i would rather have Hogan or Norman in there but I trust rivera knows what hes doin. Rivera wants to improve the D just as much as we do, i dont think he would put complete sshit out there.
