It's looking more and more likely that Captain Munnerlyn will start again this season

This makes life extremely easy for the other's team OC. He just gives the QB these instructions:

OK. Go up to the line of scrimmage. Four wide. Tell the tallest wide receiver to line up across from the captain. You'll know where the captain is because he's a midget. Throw the ball to the WR lined up against the captain. Throw the ball high, not low. And don't worry about the safeties. They can't tackle. Or cover. On two. BREAK!

We all saw this happen last season. A lot.

Well, we had no pass rush....our LBs sucked and Ss could help. So yeah, Capt was an easy target...under those circumstances.

Captain got the chance to start in 2011 bc of how he played as a starter in 2010. When Gamble was benched. You don't consider what Capt did heading into the 2011 an example of solid play and potential?

Same for Martin. His starts at FS prior to 2011 showed lots of promise. Again, he is a FS...coverage is suppose to be his strength and has shown that prior to last year.

People block all that out and only focus on 2011 for some reasons with those 2. Yeah, they need to improve but they aren't what some portray them as.

I still don't get how some trash Martin and praise Godfrey in the same breath. That is crazy. Bash em both or praise them both....Godfrey has shown he can't cover or tackle in the open field for yearS.

True. Godfrey is mediocre. Can't cover $hit.

I hope Kuechly is covering Graham and Gonzalez etc this year instead of Godfrey.

Captain played great as a starter in 2010. Bad in 2011. So he should be cut?

Martin was solid every year but 2011....so he too should be cut?

Why do ago many want to wash their hands of guys who had a bad 2011.....on a team riddled with injuries on D, a weak front 7 and were in a new scheme with no offense (that they tweaked all year bc of injury)???

I mean, aren't people glad we didn't part with Gamble after his pathetic 2010 that got him benched??

Can't put too much emphasis on 2011 play. A lot to influence things that year....and some of these guys being talked about like trash have showed legit potential over multiple games prior

Capt's whole career can't compare to Gamble's one 2010 season.

Let's not start comparing Capt to Gamble.

Or maybe they played because there simply was no one else to compete. It's clear Rivera is changing this team with competition

I figured last season by Gamble would make the naysayers realize how good of a player Gamble has been for the majority of his career, but i guess it didnt. You really think a guy that supposedly "sucked" so bad the year before last would you just up and have the best season for his position statistically even better than the established best CBs in the NFL???.........Yeah right.

If Norman wouldn't have gotten injured for those few days and if Hogan wasn't a puss, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I would much rather see Butler as the starter and keep Cap in the nickel if Norman isn't the starter.

I love Cap, but he should be a nickel and ST guy, NOT the starter.

As Zod said though, if we can get some pressure up front it would make a world of difference on the back end. I cite it as an example all of the time, but again, we went to the Super Bowl with Reggie Howard and Terry Cousins as our starting corners and a far less explosive offense.

Captain has never been good, he was 66th ranked CB last year. Gamble on the other hand has shown elite cover skills before. You can't compare the two.
