You know, this preseason opener has a storyline I haven't heard mentioned

Remember in the Pro Bowl this year where the AFC defense wasn't doing anything but playing pattycake in the 1st half against Rodgers and Brees, but then the front four at least started playing like they were in a playoff game as soon as Cam came in? Where he actually took several shots and was knocked down a handful of times? There was speculation then that Gary Kubiak had told the defense to suddenly turn it on because of how Cam embarrassed the Texans' #1 defense in that 4th quarter during the regular season.

Think there's any chance of the Panthers taking some shots at them if they felt like that was indeed the case?

The general unspoken rules changed for Cam. Why is the unknown....but clearly that DL changed what Pro Bowl DLs do in games for Cam

Both conferences rotate players in throughout the game. Newton came in for the second half for the NFC and the AFC rotated in some guys who played harder. There are rarely conspiracy theory explanations for things.

There was a HUGE difference in how the defense played in the first half and the second.

There were different guys playing...that's a pretty big reason for a difference.

Newton will likely play a few series at most. So the whole drama will last 1 quarter or less. The winner of this game will come down to our second and third teamers against theirs. Just like it always does. The real drama will be who steps up among the 15 receivers and who steps in the secondary.

I am not saying that it was intentionally to go after Cam. However, there was a significant difference in the agressiveness of the AFC defense in teh 2nd half.

It was definitely odd the way the pace picked up, and it didn't help that the players that Cam was playing with weren't ready for that pace of play.

I know some people use the excuse that the winner gets paid more, but I don't buy that crap; these guys get paid a lot all ready.

I just hadn't heard the notion that Kubiak told the AFC Defense to go out and play balls out.

Couple that with offensive line players who didn't seem to give a crap and it was a total disaster for the NFC.
