Interesting Note On Cam's Biggest Flaw Last Year, And How He Will Likely Fix it In 2012

Yes, I agree he needs to improve in a lot of areas but I'm sick of hearing people complain about the towel over his head when he's down on himself. Don't they notice he also wears a towel on his head after scoring drives?

I don't care about the towel thing but maintaining his confidence is key. Sometimes Cam would throw a pick and it was like the game was over. Still close on the scoreboard but the look on his face was defeat.

That backfoot is nothing but trouble, sometimes it works. But he definitely needs to get out of that habit, from the videos I've seen of camp he's still throwing off it.

Also that backfoot causes his passes to sail and get pick! :(

The offense failed us against Green Bay. Sure we scored some points but we had like three straight turnovers in the 2nd half that killed the game.

Ball security.

It really was Cam and the Defense in that game. If they made a stop here and there, not have blown coverage on the jennings TD. That game would have been different. Same with Cam, had he not thrown the ball towards woodson and gotten intercepted twice, a whole different outcome. I think on one he threw off his back foot.. It's things he can work on for sure. I'm confident he knows this and is working on it as well.

We can criticize him all we want but at the end of the day he is his biggest critic. Which is hard to find in a QB.

Leaders have to lead - sorry to break it to you guys but, sitting on the bench and pouting with a towel over your head isnt leading - Cam knows it was a big flaw last year and is apparently going to do something about it - time for the rest of you to admit it was a big problem of his last year and look for improvement

Cam was playing catch up 3 quarters of almost every game, most times rushing his throws/calls, and got discouraged in some by the lack of defense, you could see it at the games.

Are you sure about that, Alex Smith?

Heh, I saw that and started scrolling through the pages wondering if I was going to have to be the one to call him out on that. Obviously completely false statement, but I agree with the point that with confidence in his defense and STs he'll start making better decisions.

Cam went to the bench and hid under the towel after he threw a 91 yard TD to LaFell too.

There was exactly one time that I thought Cam's body language showed what you said - the second Atlanta game. After his first pick, he looked like he was just going through the motions. The Panthers blew a pretty big lead in that one so I can't say I blame him.

Definitely. See my previous post.

Excellent post. I'd add throwing off his back foot as well. He tends to do that, since College he's had a habit of throwing off his back foot.

@Rubi, I don't know man. I'll go ahead and say he's an Elite player that makes everyone around him. I hesitate to say he's the perfect player when I know he can improve and you don't want to really sell him short of his greatness.

more the ultimate player.

Sorry man but our defense IS the difference between a winning season (which is only technically 3 more wins btw), and IMO a postseason team.

Cam was playing catch up 3 quarters of almost every game, most times rushing his throws/calls, and got discouraged in some by the lack of defense, you could see it at the games.

A better defense means a more confident Cam and just a btter team all round. Don't even get me started on ST and Mare...

everything except the bold was right. the bolded part couldn't have been further from the truth.

I don't care about the towel. That's part of his ritual, good play or bad.

What bothered me was when he would go into a shell. Can't remember the game, but a couple of times in the 2nd half, offensive linemen tried to help him up after a sack, and he just blew them off. You could tell he was pissed. When he gets like that, he does not play well.

He knows it and is certainly working on it. I am not worried in the least.

What it seemed like at the games I saw in person. Maybe not for 3 quarters, but especially near the end when it mattered most. Our defense was what? Almost the worst defense as far as points given up last year? Mistakes were made on both sides, but I don't feel like less mistakes from Cam will help the defense as much as the other way around.
