Interesting Note On Cam's Biggest Flaw Last Year, And How He Will Likely Fix it In 2012

Cam has plenty to improve on even with being one of the best in the NFL.

Examples:

1) Getting down on himself and letting it show

2) Releasing the ball quicker/recognition

3) Knowing when to take something off the ball

4) Eliminating leaving his feet to get that extra yard, i.e. windmilling

Regarding #3, Teeray made an excellent post on this a couple days ago. This is key to eliminating some of the overthrows.

If he can improve in these areas, he can quickly become the league's most dangerous player.

I don't get # 1. Why can't we let Cam be himself? I didn't realize we live in a one deminsional society. And how come other QBs can let their emotions show and no one feels it's a bad thing?

Other QBs get called out for it too. Hell, people talk crap about Eli Manning for all the goofy faces he makes even when things are going well. Not saying it's right, but it comes with the position.

I would have to rank this player analyses with Al Gore's report on global warming. Credibility- questionable..

Cam's misfortune in the second half came form bad D and ST.

If you want to talk about his biggest flaw it would be the occasional high ball he sometimes like to throw. Not the fact that he is upset not making plays he knows he can make. I for one are glad to see he's not content with his performance last year, it shows a drive and willingness to get better.

You do realize that Cam himself came out and said that this was a weakness of his last year.....that it was something that he was determined to work on because he knew that it DID affect his play in the 2nd half of games.

For footballisasport, unlike you I am a Panthers fan, not strictly a Cam fan. It is okay for Panther fans, who know the team much better than casual football fans, to criticize our players, Cam included. We know he is an exceptional player and he is almost universally admired by all of us. So please don't take us to task when we talk about opportunities for improvement.

We all know your agenda, and it has nothing to do with improving Cam or the Panthers.

because it was effecting his play. that's why you don't just let cam be cam. you help cam develop and grow up into a better cam. that's what his teammates and coaches and friends and family helps him do.

it's not a bad thing for QBs to show their emotions, but when it effects their play it becomes one. if they get too aggressive and out of control or gets into some kind of emo funk or any other extreme emotional state that keeps their head from being 100% in it then it's something that should be stopped.

truth is cam had a problem with it such that he admitted it was a problem and he knows that it's something that he has to work on and that others have been helping him with.

Excellent post. I'd add throwing off his back foot as well. He tends to do that, since College he's had a habit of throwing off his back foot.

@Rubi, I don't know man. I'll go ahead and say he's an Elite player that makes everyone around him. I hesitate to say he's the perfect player when I know he can improve and you don't want to really sell him short of his greatness.

...and he still had the best rookie QB season in the history of the NFL.

Cam already realized this needed fixing and he's working on it, as long as he's willing to continue to be honest with himself about his flaws, there is no limit to what he can accomplish.

Exactly.

I was very excited when Cam came out and criticized himself in this way. It shows that he is 100% focused on becoming the absolute best player he can be.

The worst thing that can happen to an athlete is for them to EVER believe they have nothing they need to work on.
