Will we add any meaningful FAs ?

CB should scare every Panther fan right now until we see what Norman and Hogan can do in the preseason. That being said, there is no FA right now that are even an upgrade over Munnerlyn or Butler.

I too was hoping they had signed Carlos Rogers last year but I understand coming off a 2-14 season wanting to grow and see what you have with the younger guys. Also, he is getting older and may have a big drop this year and of that's he case it would have been pointless.

Asante Samuel- pass. That's a move you make if you are desperate to get over the hump. The Panthers haven't even made it that far yet. Samuel has made a career jumping routes, but he is not the HoFer some people try to make him out to be. I don't know if Andy Reid was right about the steep decline, but when CBs go, they go. Ken Lucas anyone?

For Udogg, I wanted Carlos last year when he was still on the market. So did a number of other people on the board.

Apparently though, not many teams had interest, as he signed for just over $2 million for 2011.

But that's water under the bridge now. This year, I think there is enough talent between Butler, Norman, Hogan and Stanford to fill the #2 spot. Just please please please don't let it be Captain.

Rogers and Samuel are both 31 years old...they would have been a good 1-2 year rental, but we really need some talented youth at the position since Gamble is nearing 30 himself. They'd be taking reps away from our young CBs too...it's kinda similar to the Plaxico signing, except that our #2 WR position is less of a question mark than the #2 CB position, but the concerns are still the same. Rogers would have definitely been nice to have lined up opposite Gamble for a couple seasons though since they're both physical press-corners, so we could have utilized more blitz packages.

Philly just gave all THAT away for nothing? Wow, how stupid of them. Andy Reid has had the ability to get rid of players, before their careers nose dive. Samuels at one point was an amasing corner I doubt Philly gets rid of him if they thought he still had it in him. Especially with how Namdi and DRC looked last year.

100 million to Vick, Nadi and Cromartie salaries plus the ego of Samuel would not/did not work. The simply did not play well together, three very talented corners, one had to be the odd man out, it was Samuels.
  • Does that means that his skills have declined lower than every corner on our (Panthers) team, NO!
  • Did Phill give him away for nothing? NO!, they got rid of him to have a better chemistry with the other corners they have.
  • Are they (Philly) stupid? NO!, it was actually very smart. It was rumored that Samuels may be the odd man out in Philly anyway, but Philly stuck it out and tried to make it work. It didn't.

Are you trying to say that we have a CB on our team, other than Gamble that's better than Samuels?

Last year Samuels had 34 tackles, 13 pass deflections, 3 int's & 1 TD. Those numbers are better than DRC and on par with Namdi but more pass deflection. Exactly why Philly got rid of him, neither one of knows. But I'll say again, he's better than any CB on our team with the exception of Gamble.

And if the Panthers wanted him they could've easily gotten him...they didn't and that speaks volumes. No point in discussing him any futher. BTW you should hope he has fallen off, now that we face him twice a year.

The only volumes that speaks is that we are still in a youth movement. We currently have 5 players 30 or over on an extended roster and our average age at CB is 25. A. Samuel is 32 with 10 years in the league and we can quit discussing him if you quit posting. And I ask again, what CB on our roster, other than Gamble is better than Samuel? or are you done posting now?

Like I said before NOBODY knows if Samuels is the same player he was, even last year. For all we know he could be worse than several of our guys. He may have all the experience in the world, but his body may not allow him to be as good. If you can say that he's heads and tails better and hasn't fallen off, with 100% certainty, then I need the winning lotto numbers this week.

And as I stated before, you should hope that I'm correct, because he's in our division now. If you don't see it that way, then we should agree to disagree.

This whole thread right here is full of some retarded stuff. People saying they give up on players when they don't even know how they are doing and haven't seen them play. Stop acting like we are just about to start the season. We haven't even started preseason yet. Let's see what we got before we talk about making moves.

The only one retarded is you! Some view this year as a rebuilding year and others want the talent necessary to make a run at the playoffs. If we are really serious about making the playoffs our secondary needs some help. You do not have to be a genius to see we are lacking talent and depth at the cb position and UT.The question was simply will we get some help and if so who may be available when the cuts start happening.

For that matter NOBODY knows if ANY player is the same player they were last year, but common sense tells us that elite players don't lose there skills during one offseason, ie. Steve Smith. They are considered elite players because they've proven themselves year after year. Samuel has done that. I don't like the fact that we have to go up against him twice a year but wishing that he's lost his skills as an elite CB is insane. We will just have plan for him as we would any other elite player. There's no way to evalute a player without looking at how well that player has played in the past, expecially the most recent past. There are no lotto numbers here, just common sense.
