Mare on His Misses and His Competition

Recommended Posts

I know fans dont affect personnel decisions, but in this case......

Fans got The Golden Calf of Bristol to jump from 4th on the depth chart to starter....overnight. Foxy claiming he didn't hear the thousands chanting his name....was pretty funny though.

I can live with a young guy missing one or two. I wanted to puke after Mare missed that kick against the Vikings. That was the only game that I got to go to last year. I was so fuging angry that I think that I might have cussed at children on my way out of the stadium......I was pretty drunk so I don't remember exactly.

Vanderjagt (remember him?) is the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL, but having that on his resume didn't secure him a place on an NFL team after establishing himself as a choker. If Mare has to cite his overall FG percentage when questioned why he should keep his job, you know the guy is a bum.

There's a lot of bad things I could say about Mare, but I'll just say that I don't want this guy on my team. If we had nobody else, then I would have to live with it, but we have a capable young kicker who deserves the spot more than he does. I'll be pissed if we give the spot to the Mare simply because of the money involved. If you don't have the heart, you have no place on Rivera's team. But if you have a multi-million dollar contract that we just finished signing, we'll continue giving you the benefit of the doubt no matter what. Not exactly the kind of philosophy that I want to support. It's not the aggressive attitude Rivera brings to the team that I was led to believe either.

I might add that Medlock would do wonders for our kickoff coverage team, by kicking all his kicks deep into the endzone. Very few of those will be getting returned. If we get to cover 2 fewer kicks per game our average field position on defense will improve.

Honestly, after Mare missed that kick vs Vikings I was fuging pissed. I think that's the most I've ever been pissed over a Panthers game, yes even the superbowl because that was depressing, I was sad, not mad(turned off the TV and cried, actually).

And then to catch some of the Falcons vs Saints* game and Kasay drills the game winning fg.

Mare's peevish attitude comes off real dickish in the interview posted on the Panthers website.

Real monotone and lot's of eye rolling going one.

But then again, I might act the same way if I was about to lose my job.

No, I believe he's always been like that.

[Jim Mora launched into a lengthy post-game tirade saying the kicker’s performance was “unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable.”

Although the veteran kicked four field goals that late September afternoon, two misses in a 25-19 loss had Mora stewing and Mare’s job in jeopardy.

Olindo Mare

Now 30 straight successful field goals later, Mare is moving up the NFL charts, ranking sixth all-time for most consecutive kicks. He hit five in a row Sunday against Arizona to tie Seattle’s single-game record.

And Mora? Well, he’s the one out the league now.

“I should send him a Christmas card, you know?” Mare said with a wry grin. “I mean, I had a bad game and wish I would have made those two kicks for sure. But things happen and it didn’t work out that way.

“I was most proud of that game because at the end with (five) minutes left, I made a 46-yarder to go up. And when you go out there and aren’t having your best game and you throw it all on the line with five minutes left from 46 with the wind blowing and all and you make it, I felt pretty confident even though I’d missed two earlier.

“So it wasn’t a shock to me that I got it back pretty quick.”

It's as if he doesn't give a poo.
