We should have never obtained Vinnie...no disrespect to him.

The call to obtain him I still dont get. We already had back ups on the bench who were more familar with our system. What was the point of having them? That was a prefect time to see what we had and to groom.

I agree with that one Nu Guns Good Point

i explained that one...we only had carr and moore active and carr had gotten his back hurt the week before. moore had only just arrived after training camp so he had no real knowledge of the system. because of vinny's experience he was going to be a lot quicker at picking things up than a rookie who had only been on the team 4 weeks.

  • 2001 - Chris Weinke, 4th round, 106th overall, 2-18 record as an NFL starter; out of football
  • 2002 - Randy Fasani, 5th round, 137th overall, cummulative stats: 15 of 44 for 171 yards, 0 TDs and 4 INTs; out of football
  • 2005 - Stefan LeFors, 4th round, 121st overall; served as a reserve QB for one season; currently a backup QB in the CFL

Just sayin...

the research that i did on the successes of QBs drafted by round showed that the 4th and especially the 5th were worst. since 1998 there have only been 8 out of 33 QBs drafted in rounds 4 and 5 that have gone into a season as the starter and only 3 of those have started more than 2 years...aaron brooks, kyle orton, and david garrard. drafting in those two rounds is the biggest crapshoot with the littlest chance of reward.

that we haven't succeeded in drafting a successful QB in those rounds shouldn't be surprising. also worth noting that those picks were also pre-gregory. we didn't exactly have a good record of drafting well past the 1st round before he came in.

and i was mainly talking about a 1st rounder QB.

i just have faith that we would be able to pick a good one, that i trust our doing next year more than i would have in other years. in fact it wasn't until recently (the past couple months) that i thought we should draft a QB early and that doing it in the first wouldn't be a bad idea. what caused that change in my thinking was the number of good QBs that are coming out next year compared to other years, the fact that our team is pretty well solidified on most fronts, and jake is going to be around to help bring the next one along.

also...i am liking our new QB coach and think that he is going to do a whole lot ore at QB developing than mccoy did. i would rather go with a first rounder that our scouting department picked because i think it would have a better chance of finding a good one than most other teams and most other years and that one taken that earlier would likely have a better starting point than one drafted later.

Honestly, it's probably not gonna matter at that point. How many teams can lose their #1 and #2 QBs and still make the playoffs?
i don't think the team was feeling like they should pack it in. they wanted to get the best person who would help them win and that's what they did.

had moore been in TC, they might have felt comfortable with letting moore do it but he just wasn't ready.

I'd be happy seeing us take a QB next year. Wouldn't surprise me if a QB there in the 2nd or 3rd 2010 ends up being better than Freeman or Sanchez.
i agree....more than sanchez and freeman i don't think are 1st round value unless it's a desperate team.

Ah, I know what you're saying and I agree with you. I'm only saying, from a realistic standpoint, once you lose your top 2 QBs there's almost no way you make the playoffs. I'm honestly amazed we won as many games as we did with the revolving door we had at QB that year.

Think about teams around the league for a minute, just losing their #1 QB for the year, how they'd do. Saints sure would be an... interesting... team to watch.
