Panthers Terminate Contract of Jeff Otah

Half of the people who are talking poo are probably just as out of shape as Jeff is.

Difference is we aren't getting paid millions of dollars to play a game. The team didn't use a first round draft pick on us. I don't care how much I would get paid, I love football. Give me 50k a year to be a tackling dummy and you can sign me up.

Just so I know. It is okay to go back to saying he suffered from lack of effort? I noticed there was a breif time frame there while he was back on the team where it wasn't okay to speak ill of him.

Well, not saying that you don't know (but you have only lived approximately 66% of the time that I have), but in life class is always better than crass. It's especially easy to be crass over the internet, but even harder (or so it seems) to be classy.

I thank Otah for the quality of work that he put in while on the field for us. The kid was something to behold. Unfortunately it didn't quite work out due to injury or whatever else, but I do wish Otah well. Hopefully he can get back to 100 percent, and have a productive NFL career.

Interview with Hurney about Otah on Panthers.com. Said Otah "Didn't feel like he could go" and "He doesn't feel like he has gotten over the injuries of the last 2 season." Call me crazy, but could you see Beason or TD saying anything like that?

Agree w/ this 110%.

2. ) When Otah played, he was Pro Bowl caliber. So he still hit on talent in a talent driven league. Judging a man's heart for the game is tricky.

Peppers another example. He could of retired and attempted to make a NBA roster and it wouldn't of been a complete blindside. Talent was there though....still is.

scouts questioned his toughness and motivation in the weight room going back to when he was a draft prospect.

Like it or not, there's more to consider when evaluating who is a hit and who is a miss. Talent is only one aspect. Otah never answered those criticisms and proved everybody who questioned his motivation and toughness back then right.

This goes down as a miss.

Yeah, he failed the Jets physical.

He has had surgery. Nothing else was done to prior to him being traded. He didn't pass a conditioning test here before being traded and after his surgery.

Big man on a bad knee.....who doesn't want to push it. Sucks but he isn't the anti-Christ....just like Pep wasn't

Thanks for clarifying.

And for the record, why can't fans question a player's toughness when guys like Marty Hurney has publicly? I understand he gets paid to do so, but he didn't play the game either.

Lol, half of the guys trashing Otah are probably just as lazy or worse. Just because he isn't motivated to be a football player doesn't give you the right to speak endless sh** about him. We knew he was overweight coming out of college, but we took a chance...and missed. Get over it. Your just making yourselves look like selfish bitches by complaining as if you are concerned at all with his career and not just worried about the negative effect this could have on the Panthers.

I can't imagine if you were all Raiders fans and had to deal with JaMarcus Russel. I guarantee half of you would have ended up cutting yourselves.

if you look at the effect on what it took to acquire Otah had on the Panthers' ability to add talent through the draft he does look like our version of JaMarcus Russell fwiw

Trading up for him set us back a few years. It kick-started a string of trading valuable future picks that netted us zero proven talent.

And maybe people wouldn't talk endless poo about him and his motivation if the retarded side of this message board didn't consistently refuse to acknowledge it despite it being right there in front of them.

If you look at the domino effect it created, not only did he cost us a first round pick, but he also debited us for another first rounder, gave us The Amazing Spinning Top and Pickles, and on top of all that, he cost us 3 years of development for a player who would've actually wanted to play football at his position and a roster spot each year. You want to talk about a gigantic, steaming pile of poop. There it is.

So, yeah, people are going to be mad about that.

You can question his toughness....and it doesn't appear he had it

I just don't think it makes him a piece of poo. Bc bottom line is if he was tough....he probably would be a shell of a man after his football career was done.

I mean, if you look at it beyond what is good for Carolina. Dan Morgan was a tough SOB. His toughness made him the kind of guy you want. Might not of been in his own best interest though.

I think Otah played football bc people were willing to pay him. A job. I don't think he wanted to push his body. Big dude, bad knee. He easily could of thought the cons of pushing his body weren't worth it....and that could be the right thing for him in reality. Maybe he didn't want to walk with a cane at 40?

i wish he could have panned out for us. when he was healthy he was a monster out there. he was destroying people ten yards downfield. he had so much potential. i dont think it all is about laziness and pain threshhold. the guy is just too big for his body. not everyone can be a healthy +300 pounds.

Ok, here it is. 3:30ish. I'll answer this for the night.

Jeff never got hurt until Senior year of college, when he hurt his ankle. Up until that time he was playing football because he was told/thought he could make it a living. He played on that ankle most of the year, rehabed and played his rookie year with that ankle. Played most of his second year, and into his third, before the knee gave out.

Can we agree on that?

He has never been the same. Whatever it is. The knee itself, the discomfort, the pain, the preceived effects, I don't want to say laziness, or whatever. There are precious few who know that answer. What ever the events that led up to this. Jeff is no longer a Panther. I hate that it did not work out, cuz he WAS a BEAST.

His agent still claims that Jeff is 1000% comitted to playing again this year. Although he did admit that Jeff is not, at this point, ready to play. So... He is ready to play for someone who is willing to pay him to get ready to play? That my friends, is a plan.

If this were the first miss, I would be amazed. If this were going to be the last miss, I would be exstatic. Keep building a winner Pantherz. Cuz I am all in.
