Adam Schein's Preseason Myths (Myth = Panthers are Good)

Recommended Posts

Now you sound like a troll. Anyone on this board knows we didn't just get a few injured players back, we got the heart and soul of our defense back, we got the anchor of our defensive line back and most importantly because we had so many guys play big roles for us as starters due to injuries, we have great depth across the board. When you add a new secondary coach for a top notch secondary last year and upgrades at safety and corner you have a serious upgrade in personnel. When you consider that the guys all have a year in the system and know what they doing, you have a unit that will be much improved and more aggressive this season. But don't take my word for it just watch the results. Rivera has a track record of producing top 10 defenses in the second year of whereever he has coached.

1st off you don't know if Edwards is the "anchor of the D line" because he's never played a down here. 2nd Nolan also has a track record improving defenses everywhere he's coached. Again, having Beason back is huge but there are holes at Defensive end and at Cornerback, Two of the most important positions on the defense.

Every team in the league, especially defenses in the NFCS, have glaring holes right now on defense. Look at Atlanta's LBs outside of Spoon. Look at their line outside of JA55. Do you really think the Saints* have the pass rushers to get the best out of Spags' scheme? None of them have done anything to write home about since a few seasons ago and outside of the regular faces along their line it's filled with a bunch off players that desperately need to step up if they want to have any success. In Tampa, health is always a question with their D and the new coaching staff will likely need some time to get his squad playing to their potential. With Carolina's injured veterans coming back this season, Carolina may actually have the least of these said holes.

An old JA is not better than Charles Johnson just entering his prime. With a healthy Edwards anchoring the d-line, Fua and McClain with a year of experience, and development of Hardy, Charles Johnson should break-out and solidify himself as the best if that's even in question. Cast offs? They were behind two studs in Ed Reed and Dashon Goldson... but I bet the Redskins' safeties would start over both of those two right? Competition makes every unit better.

Yes they would but thats no what we're talking about here. Most Panther fans are worried about their Safeties if not the entire secondary not named Chris Gamble.

Your safeties would start over either Goldson and Reed? News to me. DeJon Gomes? Brandon Meriweather? Who am I missing? Cedric Griffin? Madieu Williams has fallen off in recent years. I'd take our safeties over yours any day.

You're really talking about our "cast offs" from two of the leagues best defenses? You can keep your cast-offs from the Vikings and the bum Meriweather. As if you're not worried about your own safeties bruh.

My bad, thought you meant they would start over the safeties in Carolina. And they would but thats a different topic.

Johnson is good but Abraham even though older is the best pass rusher in the South. He had the most sacks last season and is usually at or near the top. Also Clayborn in Tampa is moving up the charts. BTW adding a few cast offs from other teams isn't going to make the secondary any better. I'm sure the special teams well be a lot better with Adams returning punts and the addition of a few thumpers.

Abraham is not the best pass rusher in the South. He is not even a complete player anymore. He is on the downside of his career and was signed by the Falcons to a 3 year contract only because they have no one else. While Johnson will only get better, Abraham slowly erodes into obscurity. Clayborn in Tampa is still developing and may up end being a force but Johnson already is the best.

It isn't a few castoffs but a 4th and 5th round pick both who were projected to go higher at corner. Add that to a few veterans one of which was a backup only because they were behind a pro-bowler in Ed Reed and a new coach and yeah they will be much better.

So which of your safeties that I listed would start over ours? Your secondary is arguably the biggest ? on your team.

Brandon Meriweather is a better safety than anyone on the Panthers roster. He's a knucklehead, but a two time Pro Bowler. Also Tanard Jackson, you remember him from Tampa? Plus Washington has a much better front seven and passrush to help out their secondary. I would start those two over any safety you got.

There are not holes at DE or cornerback. Hardy has bulked up and just like Johnson in his second year of starting will be a beast this year. And Gamble is great. I am sure that out of 5 guys going for that spot we will find at least 1 solid performer. Many people mistaken think that zone defenses need great corners but they don't. They need good performers who can work together as a unit. Like I said watch and see. As for me I only going to waste so much time going back and forth with a Redskin troll stirring things up on a Panther's board.

Soo leading the South in sacks counts for nothing? Has Johnson ever had ten or more sacks in a season? Hardy had 4 sacks. Hell, Roman Harper had close to 8 and he's a freakin safety.

I don't think the Saints* and Falcons are better top to bottom....

In 3 of 4 games a rookie lead team, with a new O, new D scheme and an injury depleted D gave them plenty to worry about.

Panther O easily has a shot at being the best in the division. So the question is....do you like there D that much?

Godfrey has been to a pro bowl. Pro bowl appearances never tell the whole story of a player and you know as well as I do that it's a popularity contest amongst fans. Meriweather has a short leash with Goodell and what if he slips up and gets suspended? Playing your game here. CJ had 12 sacks in 10-11. 9 in 11-12. Pretty similar to JA55's stats and before that he was stashed on the depth chart and used situationally behind Peppers and John Fox refused to find a way to get him on the field.

Charles Johnson had 11.5 in 2010. That was with the worst offense in the NFL and franchise history.....which means he had 11.5 his first year as a starter and didnt get a chance to pin his ears back.

He had 9 last year with back issues.

CJ is easily the best overall DE in the NFCS
