Adam Schein's Preseason Myths (Myth = Panthers are Good)

Recommended Posts

I actually hope the Panthers do succeed and i pulled for them to win the Superbowl against New England. I really don't see how you can say Rivera is a better coach than Smith. Smith has done a good job over the years in Atlanta 44 and 24 i believe. He hasn't won a playoff game but every team they faced in the playoffs went on to play in the Superbowl. Mike Nolan is a excellent defensive coach. I believe he is a major upgrade over what they had last season.

I'll give you the Saints*** and their coaching troubles but as with Manning a great quarterback makes all the difference in the world. Like him or not, Brees is great and he will win football games and there offense will roll.

I don't usually feed the trolls, but I am bored and you are... well, you.

Atl did nothing this off-season except get older. New D-Cord., even if it is Nolan, does not automatically equate to success. I can't see a coaching change making that much difference. Their D is not good enough to carry that O.

It is the same in NO. Can that O carry that D? Both teams need their A game offensively to cover for their lack of D. It can work, but it is a recipe for disaster.

The Pantherz on the other hand. We have a potential juggernaut of an O. It was almost good enough to cover for a bad D last year. This year it won't have to cover for the D at all. The D is in a position to cover for itself, allowing the O to just play its games.

We are in a great position. Young, talented, fiesty, hungry, and best of all, the QB of the future leaded our team today.

So Grits, I'll take our chances thank you very much.

See Wade Phillips in Houston.

Mike Nolan- head coach record- 18-37

Wade Phillips Head coach record- 83-64 he had a winning record at every place he was a head coach. If he could win in the post season, he would still be in Dallas.

Mike Nolan is a journeymen who has coached with 10 different NFL teams over his career.

Wade Phillips is a successful head coach who also is a great defensive coordinator.

No comparison really.

I see what you're saying here, but ATL nor NO have the D line right now IMO to execute Spags and Nolan's schemes. ATL has a nasty secondary though

Understood but other than a rookie linebacker Carolina added next to nothing to a terrible defense.

As for defensive lines i believe the Panthers are the worst in the South if not the entire NFL.

Oh yeah they got some injured players back...But what if they go down yet again?

Sorry but we're talking about DC's here. Where has Nolan's defenses consistently ranked over the years? Wade is one of the best DC's in the business. Nolan is pretty dang good as well. He's like Norv Turner, great coordinator but a poor head coach.

Playing the "what if" gets you no where. What if RGIII goes down week 1? See what I did there? What if Beason/Edwards/Davis stay healthy? That defense is no longer terrible but potentially very good.

Carolina has the best pass rusher in the NFCS. Carolina picked up two very solid safeties to challenge both Martin and Godfrey and will be pushing them all-season and the best 2 of the 4 will play.

Then we get to special teams. Hurney brought in several stand-out special teamers from around the league and drafted the best punt returner to enter the draft in some time. If special teams goes from dead last to even middle of the pack, this team is vastly improved.

Now you sound like a troll. Anyone on this board knows we didn't just get a few injured players back, we got the heart and soul of our defense back, we got the anchor of our defensive line back and most importantly because we had so many guys play big roles for us as starters due to injuries, we have great depth across the board. When you add a new secondary coach for a top notch secondary last year and upgrades at safety and corner you have a serious upgrade in personnel. When you consider that the guys all have a year in the system and know what they doing, you have a unit that will be much improved and more aggressive this season. But don't take my word for it just watch the results. Rivera has a track record of producing top 10 defenses in the second year of whereever he has coached.

I'm not feeling super awesome about our D line but I think we are decent(potentially good) at our DE rotation and hopefully our DT's can at least occupy blockers. A lot really depends on health true, but same can be said about any NFL team.

Johnson is good but Abraham even though older is the best pass rusher in the South. He had the most sacks last season and is usually at or near the top. Also Clayborn in Tampa is moving up the charts. BTW adding a few cast offs from other teams isn't going to make the secondary any better. I'm sure the special teams well be a lot better with Adams returning punts and the addition of a few thumpers.

Davis has a history of getting injured. Edwards is old as dirt, older players tend to get injured more often + he's nothing special anyways. Beason on the other hand is a stud and should be a force once again.

An old JA is not better than Charles Johnson just entering his prime. With a healthy Edwards anchoring the d-line, Fua and McClain with a year of experience, and development of Hardy, Charles Johnson should break-out and solidify himself as the best if that's even in question. Cast offs? They were behind two studs in Ed Reed and Dashon Goldson... but I bet the Redskins' safeties would start over both of those two right? Competition makes every unit better.

With Davis the odds are against him, I certainly agree. Edwards had never been seriously injured before last season and he may not be among the league's best, but for what he is asked to do he most definitely requires the offensive lines attention and has been above average in run defense during his career. Run stopping DTs hardly put up godly stats so you shouldn't judge them off of that. He frees up space for linebackers and takes on blockers so others can get the glory and pad their stat sheets. Edwards can be average this season and still vastly improve the line and the rest of the defense from where they were last year. If reports about McClain are true and he beefed up, we should see improvement across the board on our defensive front.
