Guild Wars 2

Who else is getting it?

I know many MMOs have claimed "original" and "fresh" before, but GW2 seems to legitimately have a lot to offer.

Been playing on the beta a little, not really impressed. I didnt play GW1, but I assume that the game wasn't "Pay to Win" because that is how it seems like on the beta. Some cool mechanics of combining spells and what not, and the graphics are good, but just not a fan of it so far.

Do you mean like item mall providing advantages type pay to win?

It's not pay to win. Most of the gem store items are for convienience. EXP boosts, extra bag slots, bank space. Others are just for social apperance like costumes. Pay for win would be making you pay for items that give you a stat increase or something like that. You can't get any power advantage on the gem store. Also most of the items on the gem store are easily obtained ingame.

As for the game as a whole; It's pretty much my mmo obsession right now. The art style is fantastic. The combat is action oriented and is loads of fun. There's a feeling of wanderlust in the PVE(just wanting to explore and finding all the little hidden things in the world)that past mmo's have lost and just push you from quest hub to quest hub. I also haven't enjoyed PvP this much in a long time.

If you are an MMO fan you owe it to yourself to at least try this game when it comes out. SWTOR let me down at the end of the game but I'm seeing so many ways this game can last me for quite awhile and I haven't even played it very long.

I will see you in Tyria, my friend. /forgive the cliche.

I hope my college internet connection is bearable enough to play, aha.

I still can not recommend The Secret World enough. I played GW2 in beta and I reviewed TSW and still play it, although I'll have to start paying for it soon since I'm almost out of time on my free reviewer month. TSW is a vastly superior game in my opinion.

I couldn't get the feel for TSW; it felt to stiff and clunky compared to the style GW2 has. They are also going to have to pump out content like crazy to justify a sub/cash shop payment model. Is there much to do once you get through all the zones? I suppose you really have to be into the setting to want to get into it. GW2 has a feel(stylistically and gameplay wise) to it that I would be happy with any mmo having from now on.

I can't say I did; but it's really more the animations that were unsettiling I guess. I know that they allow for attackign while moving, but it seems much smoother in GW2 which is also doing the same thing(casting while moving that is). I think they improved them some but they still seem disjointed. AoC seemed to have motion capped animations and that seemed better then what they tried to do here. May not be a big deal for some, but it's one of my checklists for playing any mmo for a decent amount of time.

I know its still in beta but how much of a time sink do you think this game will be?

I'll probably end up buying it, anyone down for making a huddler's guild :P

well you don't need to spend an inordinate amount of time just to get the best gear or anything like that. i'm going to sink a lot of my time into it but just because it's been so fun to play, not really because I'm required to to be competitive in any tournament or world battles. The "endgame" gear plateaus at a level that isn't very hard to reach(and that level can be acquired through crafting, wvwvw, dungeons etc). The tournament 5v5 pvp sets you to max level with every stat option available and you earn gear skin rewards through winning(which I will also say this game has more unique and cool looks for the different gear sets then any mmo i've seen. The biggest of "time sinks" will be getting dungeon gear sets in pve, and the legendary weapons; but these are not any stronger then what you can get outside of doing other activities they just have interesting looks or effects to them.

You are always going to feel like you are accomplishing something; rushing to the end so you can get stronger should never be the goal since everything you are doing is worth it and max level stuff is just part of the enjoyment not the whole thing.

I think I'll be on Jade Quarry with some WvWvW alliance but it might depend on if they switch on the last second.
